    Whole House Back Up Generators

oil heat is almost unheard of int he west. Heating with heating oil is almost unheard of in the west. From the stats I have seen, fewer than 1% of the people in Denver use oil heat, and once you get out of town, it's probably lower. That "<1%" is probably for folks who use kerosene heaters on...

Pressure Cookers - Does anyone here use them?

canning Unless you live at sea level please don't can in a pressure cooker UNLESS it is a canner. Example: I had several conversations with Kuhn Rikon, because they kept telling me their pressure cooker heated to 15 psi. Something about what I was reading in the UK and US sites did not jive...

Uh Oh...Electric Sink Alert , Hartford, Conn.

it coudl be as early as 1946. My last house had one of them, though the dishwasher portion long didn't work. (I used to drain my modern dishwasher into it). It had an install date of 1946 written on the inside of the door. Funny, that was the exact model.

It's red and made in France

what a nice look! Are the Euro smart cars significantly different than the North American counterparts? Before I bought my Toyota Yaris, I looked at them; they called for premium gasoline in the specs I read, and the mileage was about 36 miles to the US gallon, or about 15 kilometers per...

iron with a boiler BTW this is the iron that I mentioned. See attached link. Interestingly enough I have it but still dont' have time to iron much. It DOES take only about 5 minutes to iron a cotton shirt rather than 10-15. These days I've been mostly wearing Sir Pendleton wools so no need...

    Miele Fashion Master

LOL! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Miele oven. But they are just an appliance company, and given complaints on Garden Web these days, are suffering from some of the same quality issues all manufacturers do. But it's just an iron and an ironing board! Having said that I DID spend $100 on an...

    The Inside Scoop

in defense of bread machines... I think they are great for folks on allergy diets. My gluten free, egg free, and dairy free wife means that we use her bread machines 3 times weekly. (It is a 1 pound loaf, and she eats bread with almost every meal now that she can). I am dairy free and use...

    KitchenAid on the news

cycle time variations I'd be curious to find out if your cycle time will vary. On my Bosch, when I start it up as an Autowash with Sanitize, it starts at at 143 minutes (2 hours, 23 minutes). But it then senses the dirt in the water, and adjusts, usually to between 80 and 100 minutes. Does...

Betty Crocker Downsizes Cake Mixes To 15.25 oz.

regional differences even intra-USA One thing that makes baking different, and might be why folks like mixes, is that there are regional differences in ingredients, even inside the USA. When I moved to New England from the NYC area, I noted that sugar was quite different. The grains were...
