Take a look at my KD-12

I got it a week ago but today is the first chance I've had to take a good look at this dishwasher and start assessing what I'll need to do to bring it up to par.  First off, to state the obvious, a thorough stripping and paint-job is in order, and the ends of the start switch are broken off.

How many Drive-In theaters (still showing movies) are left in your city??

There are two drive-in theatres still in operation here in the Twin Cities.  The Vali Hi is in Lake Elmo, east of St. Paul and the Cottage View is in Cottage Grove, southeast of the Cities.  I grew up in Cottage Grove and spent a couple summers working the concession stand there.     A couple...

    Ice Cream!

Mmmmm, nothing says summer like homemade ice cream!   Using an automatic freezer still seems like cheating to me.  From the time I was 3 or 4 the rule was that anyone who wanted to eat the ice cream had to take a turn at the crank.  Plus, there was the delicious fun of dropping some of that...

10 year old Amana bottom freezer fridge issue - freezer cold fridge warm

I never encountered that problem with either of my bottom-freezer Amanas but did have it happen once in the GE Profile I have now.  The defrost drain got plugged and ice built up blocking the duct.  The fan was enclosed in a solid block of ice!  Once I got it all thawed out the problem was solved.

    New Range Thread!

The hot water dispenser would have been  connected to the house's plumbing just like a refrigerator's automatic icemaker.  My hunch is the 2 quart reservoir (about the size of a 1/2 gallon milk jug) was located at the back of the range behind the bottom storage drawer, or possibly somewhere...

Pros and cons of new vs old ranges..

I'm not technophobic I would be lost without my computer and my Blackberry is wonderful.  But, my analog soul rebels against a lot of the digital wizardry that has turned simple tasks like baking a cake or washing clothes into a NASA space shuttle launch.  I like the tactile sensation of...

    New Range Thread!

Oh my gosh!  I haven't seen one of those since the 60's.  I remember two of them from my childhood.  One was either a free-standing or slide-in unit, the other was a surface unit with a separate wall oven.  I agree; with only one larger element and the burners being closer together plus the...

    Newer Dishwashers!

The normal cycle on my Ariston takes about 90 minutes plus however long it takes the dishes to "drip dry."  My usual routine is to start the dishwasher after supper or before bed and empty it first thing in the morning.  If I have more than one load's worth of stuff to wash (Christmas dinner for...

    Newer Dishwashers!

Insanely long wash cycles is about the only option left if manufacturers are being forced to make dishwashers that consume less than four gallons of tepid water.

late 50's early 60's Eureka Upright Vacuum?

That's a rare one, at least around here!  It's from around 1958 to 1960 or so.  Our neighbor had a slightly earlier version that was a greenish blue color and the trim around the headlight was gold instead of silver.  I would LOVE to have one of those!  The brushroll on yours was changed at some...

    New Range Thread!

I remember those Tappans with the warming shelf.  At the time I thought what a wonderful idea, just like the warming cabinets above an old woodburning cookstove.

Help! tid-y bowl on hardwood floors

Once that stuff has penetrated the finish (which is what it looks like) there's nothing you can do except sand down the floor and refinish it.

New addition to the family: Westinghouse Commodore

Sounds like the gas vs electric question is a matter of natu I grew up cooking with an electric range but have used gas at times in subsequent years.  I've had success with both and my share of cooking failures with both as well.  The failures were more a matter of the quality/reliability of...

Chrome plated Chambers How over the top can a person go?  I think it cheapens the look of that fine old range.  And cleaning it?!  The maid must have been thrilled.
