I got it a week ago but today is the first chance I've had to take a good look at this dishwasher and start assessing what I'll need to do to bring it up to par.  First off, to state the obvious, a thorough stripping and paint-job is in order, and the ends of the start switch are broken off.

I never encountered that problem with either of my bottom-freezer Amanas but did have it happen once in the GE Profile I have now.  The defrost drain got plugged and ice built up blocking the duct.  The fan was enclosed in a solid block of ice!  Once I got it all thawed out the problem was solved.

Insanely long wash cycles is about the only option left if manufacturers are being forced to make dishwashers that consume less than four gallons of tepid water.
