    Roper Rinse Rash

Sometimes 6" is just not enough... Check out the rinse level.  Preset, regardless of the wash level.  The washer beat the hell out of those towels.  And there is no 2-speed as the control panel indicates, unless you consider the spin.  Imagine the lack of contact with the rinse water on a full...

    Roper Rinse Rash

Reading the lid... Graphic on the left illustrates the new energy-saving water level for the wash.  Graphic on the right discusses the energy-saving level for the rinse.  It even recommends you dilute the fabric softener in a quart of water...

    Roper Rinse Rash

From one POS to another... By this time, we had a few dirty towels...I believe 4 bath and 1 beach towel.  Regular cycle, "high" water level.  You can see that the tub only fills to about 2/3 capacity:

    Roper Rinse Rash

We were curious... So we ran a quick cycle.  All was OK, until we hit the Spin.  Sounded like a Jumbo jet on takeoff, bearings were shot.  So we informed the management, and they sent a new machine the next day:

    Roper Rinse Rash

We spent Christmas this year at the beach on Treasure Island, Florida, and rented a nice condo right on the Gulf.  Terry Lattz joined us for a few days.  Naturally, we checked out the Laundry after entering, and discovered this:

Machines of Ill Repute, Volume III - The Norris Industries Thermador/Waste King

Scarce in the South... Always fascinated by these machines... Would love to have one with the "Tower of Shower" just for novelty... Notice a couple of the models have the single "Fan Jet" spray arm... Are there pictures of this wash system anywhere?...   George

    You can be sure!

Startling spin solenoid is right... I have my Grandmother's late '70's "New Generation Washer", the front-load Spacemates design... I still jump when that thing snaps into spin... Another advantage... With the Water Saver selector, I can adjust the intensity of the wash action..."Min" for...

Watching the Washer when you were Young (and now, too!)

Still do, to this day... My grandmother "fostered" my fascination with washing machines at an early age... She used to plant a red Cosco step-stool in front of her Unimatic that so many members here have, the one with the two rinses... I was quiet and trouble-free for the duration of her...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements

Fabulous... Just fabulous!!! And I now recall my Mother occasionally removing the agitator from her late 50's Kenmore... Though I'm not sure why... Thanks for the flashback...   George

    Amana Washer Help

FWIW... My Amana has a spin drain... And midway through the spin, there's about a 20-second spray rinse... Mine is one that fills the tub to the very top on the largest load setting, and has a 2nd rinse option... I've never had the need for the extra rinse, and tend to prefer the HE...

    Amana Washer Help

Zero problems so far... I bought the model just below this one, w/o the speed control, about a year ago, on Craigslist for $50... The tub and agitator look, sound, and wash just like the Speed Queens you see on YouTube... Huge capacity, and vigorous turnover... And a very smooth...

    Roper Rip-Off @ Lowe's

Bob, Glenn, Gordon... Thanks loads for the info!... I knew the aw.org guys would have the answers... I'm going to tell her to return to Lowe's and select a machine that they can confirm will have a true delicate wash speed, and a traditional full rinse...with a "real" agitator... Do you...

    Roper Rip-Off @ Lowe's

I have a friend who was in dire need of a new, inexpensive top-loader, for a Sunday delivery... So she went to Lowe's and purchased the Roper RTW4440... She phones, claiming that the washer, although it's advertised as a 2-speed, only has one speed (high), as she tested all the cycles... And...

A LOOK BACK 10 YEARS AGO THIS VERY DAY, WASH-IN 2001 MINNEAPOLIS, MN, ROBERT'S BASEMENT & HOUSE

Good times were had by all... Indeed!... Thanks Bob for commemorating the anniversary... I was fortunate to make good friendships during that outing... Not to mention the vintage laundromat in the basement... And I particularly remember that kitchy, dark restaurant where we dined one...

    Another Monday car show here!

What a treat!!! Just love vintage autos... Almost as much as vintage washers and phonographs... On the Bonneville, what is that thingy on the right side of the dash?... Is that a passenger-assist handlebar?... Probably would be considered a safety hazard now, but what a neat idea!...   George

Goodbye Indexing Tub: Frigidaire removes top-loaders from website

Minority member here too... I got my first WW T/L set back in the '80s, when I worked for WCI... Sold it to a friend, and got another set when the models changed... Sold it, and got the Frigidaire T/L set with the corkscrew agitator... Sold it, and got my first Frigidaire F/L... For my...

1976 Sears Fall & Winter scans

Peteski... Those slant-top free-standing and tri-level ranges like you see on Page 1147 were Roper... They were still making that style in the Lafayette, Georgia plant, labeled "Kenmore" as well as "Roper", when I worked for them in the late '80's... And even then, although Roper was the...

OMG! Warning for using newly-formulated ALL detergent

I had a $1.00 coupon... and as it was already on sale, the final price was less than $2.00... referring to All Powder with Oxy-Active whatever... emptying a load of colored cottons in warm water from the Amana/SQ, I discovered Oxy-Actives everywhere... as I refuse to throw anything away, I...

Need compact dishwasher help me decide 18" GE profile or Single Kitchenaid Drawer

6" does make a world of difference... In a dishwasher as well... Our cabin came with the GE 18" GSM1860 Stainless, MSRP $799 on the GE website... It is of Chinese heritage, and, although it has up to 8 water changes on the Pots&Pans cycle, the water pressure/velocity is tantamount to a lawn...
