Operator ERROR! aka "People Are Stupid!"

I go with user error. The new machines are almost idiot proof. Choose the cycle based on the fabric type and they default the other settings(like spin speed, temp, wash time) to what the manufacturer recommends. If the fabric is delicate care, choose gentle. If bulky or heavy, choose bulky, etc.

    OUTRAGEOUS Pricing!

a fool and his money are soon... You have got to be kidding! Judging from the console style, that one is from the same era(early 2000s) as my 3 speed Elite. Heck, it was only $499 brand new.

    Whirlpool Cabrio

cabrio None of the current "Cabrios" have an agitator, all of them have the wash plate. The non-Cabrio models still use an agitator, however, I believe they now use the same belt driven motor and indexing tub as the smaller(3.6 cu ft) Cabrios do. Surprisingly, those models still have water...

GE 7 cu ft electric dryer

interesting observation Last fall my parents bought a new Kenmore pair, washer model 2800 and dryer 6800. The washer was the Kenmore version of the 4.3 cubic foot Cabrio and the Dryer was the matching dryer(7.0 I believe). While the washer is all new, the dryer is basically the same dryer as...

    GE Medallion 850 Dishwasher

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a GE of that era(early to mid 80s) with so many buttons. Back in the mid 80s when we had a housing boom here(and my parents were looking to buy a new home) GE was by far the most common appliances found in them. Most of them had the BOL GE with just a cycle...

    Which DW should he get?

new DW For a decent DW at a decent price, this would be my pick. Kenmore model 1346. This is basically the updated version of the one which came with my house that was built in 2005. It's not one of the HE models(although likely much more efficient than the old GE) so it has the hard food...

    POD APRIL 7 2011

kenmore lids I always remembered Kenmores having the side opening lid until I was shopping for my own in 2002. The Elites at that time were the only KMs that had the front opening "wide mouth" lids. So sometime between 1997(when I left Sears) and 2002 is when they started using the front...

    POD APRIL 7 2011

prices After seeing the price on those machines, I pulled out the salescheck on mine. In March 2002 my Elite(which is what the 90 series had become by then) was $499 and the dryer(also an Elite) was $399. My guess is that in 1986, the appliance market was not as competitive as it had become...

    POD APRIL 7 2011

console and logo designs I was working at Sears BC in the mid 90s and I believe it was late 96 into 97 when the then new Kenmore logo and "curved top" consoles on the Kenmores arrived. My parents had a 90 Series that still had the squared off console like the POD and they bought theirs in late...

    Whirlpool Advantage

WP vantage If it is the same as the "Vantage" sold in the US, then it is a very top of the line Cabrio. I was at Lowes last night buying some 100 watt light bulbs(stocking up before they are banned by year's end) and I took a look at washers. The Vantage is very nice looking, but cost $1999...

    OMG!!!!!!! NEW DW!!!!!!

Nice machine! The interior looks nearly identical to mine. As mentioned before, the Pots and Pans cycle with a high temp wash will clean nearly anything! One question, does your user guide have a cycle chart in it? I've noticed many of the newer KM WP dishwashers do not. On mine, only the...

One day fire sale: Electronic Control Kenmore Set

If I was closer AND had the space for an extra pair, I'd take you up on that. While my first memories of a washer and dryer were of my parents relatively basic Maytag, this pair is the first of my "dream" washer and dryer. I think I was about 7 or 8 when I saw this set(only it was in black) at...

What Was the first vintage washer you remember seeing or started up as a child

first washer memories My parents pretty basic Maytag toploader. They bought it(and matching dryer) months after getting married in 1974 so likely a '75 model. It had 3 temperature buttons on the left, three load size buttons on the right and the dial right in the middle. It also had a blank...

    78 Kenmore dishwasher documentation

4 total rinses Did I read that right, a total of 4 rinses for a normal wash?? I don't even think the original WP Power Cleans did that many. And I get a meager 1 rinse and a purge with normal wash on my current Kenmore.

How Washington, DC Ruined Your Washing Machine

Sad but true. The more I research the new washers, the more I appreciate my old deep fill Kenmore Elite top loader from 2002. It doesn't have an "energy star" anywhere on it, but it will get your clothes clean and to date has never needed a service call. And I'm afraid the story is similar...

    dishwasher issues

Is it one of the new "resource saver" high efficiency models? If so, these have a filter which manually has to be cleaned periodically based on usage patterns. Very similar to the filter in the Bosch dishwashers that has to be cleaned from time to time. On a related note, does anyone know...

    Slow agitation, fast spin

slow/fast My Kenmore Elite has just this setting(normal)among the six different wash/rinse speed selections. I use this one on just about everything other than towels(heavy which is fast/fast) and items which specifically need a delicate or hand wash cycle.

    Sears Detergent

how much? After reading many great reviews on this site, I purchased my first box of the sears detergent. I could not find the "orange" box so many have mentioned here so I went with the green(there is a bit of orange on the box) box that has the stain fighting formula. Bought the powder, 125...

    Vintage Dishwashers!

Ultrawash II rinses Brent, that black Kenmore looks identical to one my parents had from early 1995 until last summer. If I recall correctly, it was an "Ultrawash III". I'm not sure what the differences were between II and III. It had a plastic tub. As for # of rinses, I emailed my dad to...

    Vintage Dishwashers!

Vintage DW of choice Would have to be one of the unadulterated Power Clean Whirlpools(or Kenmore Ultrawash) before energy star ratings and the water police began dumbing things down. Picture of the day from about a month ago would be a nice choice. Full set of cycles and options, countdown...
