I've always wondered just how many sales were generated by this advertisement.  Firstly, $25 doesn't seem like much of an incentive even going back to the 1979 economy.  Secondly, this coupon only applies to the A308 model, so I wonder how much this ad served more as a modified 'bait and switch' scheme than a simple sales incentive - figuring it might get a buyer in the door, but the dealer might be willing to give his own $25 discount on a higher priced model and let the buyer forego the coupon.

I think the fabric matic model was to sort of fool buyers who thought that the were getting the same features Kenmore models offered in a Maytag so the prestige of a Maytag with almost the features of a Kenmore at a slightly higher price with smaller capacity, rougher handling of delicates and poorer overall agitation.

A family friend who had a late 1960s FilterFlo, then Whirlpool and I don't know the remaining sequence up to a Frigidaire frontloader set that I saw three years ago ... once told me that she bought a Maytag (of some model) at some point in the history and insisted the dealer take it back because it mangled her knitted sweater-tops.

Wow! That’s the first I’ve ever heard of the Maytag damaging clothes. I’ve always heard the opposite of the opinion that Maytag’s didn’t clean well, down through the years. In the Midwest, Maytag was the preferred choice in washers, back in the day. If you had a Maytag, you had a good washer. I was impressed by how quiet they ran, this coming from a household who owned a Monky Wards Norge!! 😂
