My Aunt Bess and Uncle Al had one of these in their apartment in Chicago, as my mom remembered. No problem for her to bake in the oven instead of in the apartment in summer. There was a vent through the wall for the hot air.
The great big huge metallic blue/green Carrier I remember from a restaurant where we used to eat in Jacksonville, FL in the 50s. Since the compressor was right there in the dining room, it was loud as hell, but by god, it was cold and dry. Far more fascinating were all of the large mounted fish on the walls, especially the Sailfish and Marlin.
