So I bought a house and the dishwasher looks like the 49 ge model from the pictures I compared it to online. If I turn the thing in the front it makes noise, but I really don't know how to work it, or if it can be fixed. Does anyone know anything about this model?

Best of luck

You say you heard noise. How long did the noise last? Did you hear water? If you did not see water entering through the air gap, the chrome little tower thing on the deck, the water supply valve was probably shut off by someone, probably for a reason like trouble.

Before you try to operate the machine with water, examine the Bakelite impeller in the bottom to make sure that it is not broken. Being made of a brittle plastic, they were fragile when new and got more brittle with age. If the motor is operated with a broken impeller, the unbalanced forces on the motor shaft can damage the motor.

Thanks for the reply. I am not knowledgable about this stuff. I'll probably just get rid of it just thought I'd see if there was anything I could do with it

There is one thing you can do with it.....Post pics here and one of us will probably offer a fair price for it and pick it up from you. :-)

PLEASE do not let home depot's installers or a contractor take it to the scrap heap.
Vintage Americana is quickly dying and every piece that can be saved is a treasure.
