I was in the process of buying a 1957 Ge fridge and the lady unplugged it to defrost it for me without turning it off. She plugged it back in and it's only making clicking sounds and the motor wont kick on. I wasn't sure if it's reparable or trashed ?

high pressure stall

if it was plugged back in shortly after it was unplugged while running and it
just hummed a little and clicked off,you only have to wait a few minuits for
the head pressure to bleed down and then it it should restart normally.
If it doesn't restart-just hums and clicks off, there might be a problem with
the compressor's start relay

I recently picked up the exact fridge in white. TOL 1957 GE. Sounds like the compressor stalled.

It appears the GE letters and badge on the fridge compartment door are missing. If it truly is dead I am looking for parts.

Ben, it looks like the badge & lettering are on the freezer drawer pull, right side, and the "Combination" script on the left.  Maybe this is a '58 or later?  My '57 literature does show badge & lettering on upper right of fresh food door for the bottom freezer models and on lower right of freezer door for the top freezer model.

Ralph - you are so correct. When I was originally looking at the photo it was on my iPhone. I now see the GE badge clear as day - and also noticed the small width foot pedal. Definitely a '58.

GE FRIDGE

Thanks for the info on the fridge , the lady stated it was a '57  and I agree it's a '58 after she gave the model # with a letter P meaning 1958 .
