1961 G E stove with 24" fluorescent light bulb problem;

Have a 1961 GE stove with the long fluorescent light bulb that flickers, for a while , then goes out.
Have replaced twice. Replacement works for a while then starts to do the same. thing. Thought I
might have gotten a bad two pack box of the bulbs, but now am starting to think something is wrong
with the stove. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Les.

It might be a bad ballast.

Most 24" fluorescent tubes (17-20 watt) use a starter. If so, it may need replacement. You need to get the proper one for the tube, as there are several types. They can be purchased at many hardware stores or electric supply companies.

Many ranges use the can style FS-2, iirc our '61 GE does, but been some time since it was replaced, they do last a long time. Here our is working properly:

Unplug the stove, and make sure the contacts in the sockets are not corroded.

Had problem with a fluorescent fixture, changed out the ballast a couple times still wouldn't work right.

Finally replaced the lamp holder sockets- Fixed.
