1963 Kenmores - now I have MORE turquoise in the house!

I've always liked the styling of these early '60's Kenmores... and NOW I have a set and in TURQUOISE no less! These are VERY cool! They are my 2nd favorite set now!

And the really cool part is... they light up!

They do need some work thought. The dryer needs a motor and the washer needs a little TLC too..... but that's OK!

A few months ago that same turqoise Kenmore was at our St. Vincent de Paul. It was a suds - saver, no less! I wanted it bad, but I had no place for it. My Grandmother had the same set, only in white. I spent many many hours watching that machine!

Kenmore 70 series

Nice find Kevin - I always loved the styling too. My aunt and uncle had the same set in white. Sears must have offered this model for a couple of years as they bought them new in '65. They still have the owner's manuals with the dates written in them (I wish they still had the machines too...)

They replaced the washer in the early '80's and the dryer around 1990 if memory serves.

I much prefer the control lighting concept of the 70's rather than the big glass panel of the Lady's.

This brings back memories. The washer was my parents first automatic washer. I remember when it was delivered. It was so exciting since we washed clothes with a wringer. lol

Well...the machine was nice at first, but kn a 5 year time period, we had to replace 3 water pumps, and a motor. My dad got disgusted and bought a Frigidaire RapidDry 1000.

Yes I was pretty jazzed when I was able to bring them home!

The videos will have to wait as the washer has a broken check valve (the machine won't hold water), but with KenmoreGuy64's help I've got a line on a replacement (thanks Gordon!)

Joe (drewz): YES, they are 1963 KM 70 series! It's neat that it says "Sears Kenmore" on the control panels!

RCD: What car am I parking outside? None! LOL In fact, two weeks ago today I actually bought a used truck! After borrowing and renting so many times I figured it was about time I get one... AND the price was right!

The check valve arrived in the mail on Wednesday!! So, once I get my posterior out there to help you and Mike, I think you'll be all set.

We need to work on the dryer motor issue, but I know where it could be rebuilt nearby here in South Carolina, but it needs to be in rebuildable shape. You'll spend at least $25 in shipping getting it here and back. It's one of those typical hole-in-the-wall places where motors are stacked from floor to ceiling. There are files from the 1970s in dented old cabinets, yellowed asbestos looking ceiling tiles, and a metal GE fan attached to the wall in the waiting room..... that kind of place.
