1963 Lady Kenmore W&D Set

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Joseph,
Do you by chance know what year Whirlpool stopped using this type of burner system?
I wonder why they stopped, and went to the common type's that are found now?

On modulating burners...

Whirpool/Kenmore stopped using these around 1970. I think there are two main reasons:

1) Cost. This hydraulic system is a lot more expensive than a bimetallic disc thermostat; and,

2) The reality that you don't need a lot of choices or control over the drying cycle: this system doesn't require user input, decisions or that you set any knobs. At a time when specmanship and more choices & knobs must be better, one setting that does it all couldn't possibly work. (Said tongue-in-cheek).

I am

According to mapquest, the town is 1 hour and 45 minutes away. I have no expectation of winning the auction so if I lose, I lose. I lose 90 percent of the auctions I bid on. All's fair in love and auctions. There's amost always some crazy nut that wants something more than you do and is willing to overpay for stuff on eBay. So, again, if I get outbid, I get outbid. And if someone here outbids me, a) No hard feelings and b) I'll be happy they stayed in the family.

It was I who did the "Buy It Now" and ended it. I got the middle of the line washer from 1963 so this set will go great with it.

Congrats on your ebay win! That is my favorite Kenmore set, having used one of those for many years at both my Grandmothers house and 2 of my aunts had the same set. Smooth running and quiet with features galore, a truely glamorous set........

Thanks
This set was in our family for years and I loved the push button controls and the way it just worked. This set has been one of my dream sets to have. When I saw it posted on here and went to Ebay, I couldn't believe my eyes "a matching set". Well I will be picking the Lady's up tomorrow and they will be in their new home tomorrow evening along with more of their relatives :) Looks like a busy week ahead.

Yes it was a shocker, I was checking it to see if any bids were on it and there was none, I refreshed to check something else and the "BUY It Now" appeared. It was early afternoon when I checked.

BIN

The last time I looked at the listing was a 11:30 am yesterday and there was no BIN. Twarted again. I guess I'm destined to never own a vintage washer. I'm accepting my destiny. Congratulation and enjoy the set.

Was Wondering..

Where the BIN came in, as was totally sure it was not there when I posted the link. Guess sellers really want things O-W-U-T out before they move house.

Congrats to the winner, Versatronic, don't think of it as "thwarted", but just wasn't meant to be this time. Something is coming your way, I know it and it is going to be big!

Congrats Glenn! beautiful machines.

Versatronic, I was pulling for ya man. Maybe Glenn will consider your attempt, play with his new machines awhile, then offer them to you, or perhaps needs to make room for others he may have that will be in the way? Talk to him. You are such a good sport anyway. I just sold a Maytag A806, due to a posting on the club, someone who wanted one real bad and never had one. He is getting it now.

Steve

Thanks

Thanks Steven and Laundress for the encouragement. Maybe next time. Lightedcontrols did offer to fix me up with an as-is 806 so perhaps I'll try to schedule a road trip to Virginia later this summer.
