1966 Westinghouse range their first self cleaning oven

Is this like the Frigidaire range that had a very complex system that eventually became so inaccurate that you cannot bake or roast in it and you eventually have to convert it to a non self cleaning oven?

 

I know someone had the stirrer range, she said it did not work very well for thick sauce like spaghetti sauce and was on the expensive side.  Her husband worked for Westinghouse and could get a discount.  I don't know if it sold very well.

I was thinking an oven rack would have to be used as a broiler rack, and that the broiler pan would need to be placed on an additional rack under that.  Eddie's use of foil would certainly be a time saver for broiler/oven rack cleaning.

 

How strong are the stirrers?  They would be quite useful if they could handle a pot of risotto.

Oven control system

Hi Bob this Westinghouse use the king Sealy system same system that GE used in there first self cleaning oven’s not as bad as what Frigidaire used on their models at also had tender matic. When I found the stove 30 years ago and had a bad oven sensor same thing that used to go wrong with cheese was an easy fix.

Hi Ralph, this would not be good for stirring real heavy sauces I think it was intended for gravies and putting etc.

I’m making a huge pot of spaghetti sauce as we speak I don’t think it would’ve been good for this.

Overall, a Westinghouse was about as good as any range ever made, the 59 you fixed up for me is just wonderful, .no matter what other stoves ive had ill always keep this one.

This is just beyond cool! So glad you got around to this beautiful range and I have never seen one of the auto stirrer in action. Hope to see it someday.

Beautiful Range

You better be careful with this range around Kevin313. You might have it come up MIA!
Don't forget to spray the bottom of the foil covered broil pan top with nonstick, that makes it even easier to clean. I do that and you can spray the whole pan with hot water, then put it in the dishwasher. Saves fingertips with SOS pad!

love the stirrer...

Some science lab hot-plates had magnetic stirrers, the stirrer that you put into the flask or beaker looked like a big plastic medicine capsule and spun around as the matching magnet under the hot-plate surface rotated. This must be a pretty rare range I'd think!
Our neighbor in Towson was a Westy engineer and they had an early '60s Westy 40" range that was a nice one.
