Hey Fellas,

Look-ie what I just got in the mail today! A 1968 Radarange RR-2! I'm pretty sure it's the commercial model. Works great, very retro. Sweet. Excuse the mess, I just unpacked it.

One bizare question. How do I change the lightbulb?

I think there is a panel on the back that gives access to the bulb. I have seen the BOL home model with this end-opening configuration. What makes this a commercial model?[this post was last edited: 6/27/2012-13:30]

I do believe that's an R-2. The home models were all RR's. Interestingly, the RR-1 in service lit was simply known as the Radarange until the RR-2 came along.

If it's anything like the RR series, there should be an access door on the back to change that bulb.

Have you managed to find a date code anywhere on it? Very nice shape, too!

thanks fellas

Tom- The reason I think it's commercial is the differences from the residential model like the one in the link.
Cory-I'll verify when I get home, but I'm pretty sure the back plate said RR2. I haven't found the date code, but it was made to 1968 standards. I'll post the info later. Maybe someone else can tell me more.

All- The bulb was located in the front of this one. Right behind the 'Radarange' wording. I still can't figure out how to completely take off the front cover, but I did get it loosened enough to get the bulb out.

We have light!

First off Cory, I appologize you are right it is a R-2 1600W, 115V, 60HZ, microwave

MFG P71306-2M
Serial 053951423

It has 1968 dated over the machine in several places.

Can anyone date it for sure?

remember using similar as a kid to heat up snacks

My mom and dad split up when I was still pretty small and he'd show up every so often and we'd stay with him for a week or so. One time he was doing a job and I was with him staying at a hotel and they had packaged donuts and snacks you'd buy and heat up in a huge chrome microwave.
Picture hadn't loaded but bet its a similar version.
1600 watts, if that's output power and not watage used that thing is a monster. The older Emerson I bought at a garage sale years ago still works and is 800 watts and the new ones I'm always checking out are about 1200 or so.
First used one I got was only 600 watts and could barely do popcorn.
