1970's Maytag Pair

I'm not sure of the make, I think they are Maytag. I've been after an older set to handle my husband's work clothes. The seller says the dryer timer is 'sticky' and the washer motor has a (unspecified) problem. Are they worth the 100 bucks and are parts still available?

It's difficult to tell which models they are but I will hazard a guess based on the washer buttons that it has the larger tub and two speeds.  Dryers drums were all the same size. 

 

$100 is a good price for a set like this, but a dryer timer could be hard to find and the "unspecified" motor (or ???) problem could be an easy fix or a big repair.  If you and/or your husband are handy, it could be worth pursuing.  He can come back here for advice.

 

Otherwise, if it's not an urgent situation you may want to hold out for machines that are known to be in proper working order, which can be found for not much more money, and save yourself some potential headaches.

Late 1970's 08 series machines.

No buttons on the console of the dryer so it's a lower end model.

The button arrangement on the washer looks like it's either a 208/209 or a 608. I'm leaning towards 208/209 with it being paired to a lower end dryer.

Timers for both are obsolete but new enough to pop up somewhat regularly on Ebay.

I'm not getting warm fuzzies over the front panel of the washer off of its hinges like that. It's usually a sign of being man handled during the removal process.

I noticed the front panel on the washer too.  Unhinged.  Truck from sides only.  Bring a phillips head screwdriver with you (a short one) and remove the two screws at the bottom of the panel.  Lift it out toward you and up so the clips at the top of the panel drop into place on the cabinet, then lower the panel and replace the screws.

 

I'll be curious to find out what issues the washer is having once you get it home and can test it out.

It's not even close at the bottom, so I don't think the front panel is attached wrong, just simply not-attached.

$75 seems like a good price to me. Fix just one and you're ahead... and even if you bail, there's likely more than $75 in parts in them.
