For appliance collectors in the north there is a great late 1970s Tricity oven in Leeds - see the link. This is just a single static (non-fan) oven with separate grill but it appears to be in EXCELLENT condition and for a 99p start it could be a real bargain for someone. Unlike other Tricity ovens of this era this unit is about 100cm high. I can check out the other dimensions when I am at home if anyone wants to know.

Hopefully someone will save this, its too good to miss out on

It certainly is in excellent condition, a wonderful example! very heavy though, I hope somebody can find space for this.

I think Margo had the larger version rather than this one - but she definatly did have a Tricity. It cant be that far from you, will you go for it? i hope so :)

The aperature dimensions of this unit are: 95cm h x 60cm w x 53cm d There were also matching fridge and freezer units as well.

Wow!

Thats a nice looking oven, looks like it was either un-used, or well cared for (very good sign!)

My question is, is this machine self-cleaning? It seems most American models of this era certainly were!

I'd love to have one, but I don't think we could trade in our Westinghouse POR668 with Catylitic liners... Unless, you could retrofit an old oven with that sort of thing :D

Actually

It does have catalytic linings, although otherwise it is a pretty basic British electric oven. Even when produced it was BOL, no double oven or fan. It certainly does look well cared for.

My understanding is that most American self clean ovens heat to high tempertaure to burn off any deposits - even now that is rare in the UK and back then almost unheard of - I know of only one (freestanding) UK made oven with this facility. On the other hand catalytic linings were very widely adopted.

Are these the ovens that were originally in the Barbican (and of course, Mrs. Leadbetter would never dream of living in such marxist squalor, full of trades union hysteria!)? I wish American fridges had gone the built in route for those of us with small kitchens and narrow doors....
