1972 Hotpoint dishwasher in San Diego, never used!

So what's up with the rust spots on the upper edge of the kick panel (yellow arrows), exactly where GE-made DW's always get them from leaks at the bottom of the door?

And why is the price on the new listing only $59, when the seller so emphatically turned down $150?

Those things having been asked, I had one of these in an apartment I rented back in the late '70s, and it wasn't the worst DW I've ever used.

i remember

the first hotpoint i had in 1969, it leaked around the bottom of the door on the left side. i replaced the bottom door seal (along with a lot of other parts) and it still leaked. i remember well how we kept it in the basement because i could not get the leak stopped. my aunt and i would bring the dishes down from the second floor kitchen to the basement every nite to wash them, we were both so proud of this dishwasher! what great memories!

i had another hotpoint in 75 that i got out of the trash, same design, that ufo style pump and black spray arm and the tube up the middle. it leaked too, same place! i didn't know they all had this problem!

i remember it washed ok, i had never seen a kitchenaid in action yet, but it was noisy and looking back i don't feel it was one of the better pump designs that i have seen.

the first one i had had a different type center wash tube going to the top rack. instead of the ball on top this one had a half spray arm on one side of the tube and a dial you could turn to increase or decrease water flow thru it. like you would really want to decrease it, i'm sure it wasn't that powerful anyway, looking at the design itself.

he turned down my 150 cause he's pissed at me for "insulting" him. how dare i!!!??? and if 150 is such "chump change" to him
why did he re-post it for 59 again? that's even chumpier change to a man of his wealth!

ahhh the joys of craigs list! lucky for me i have met a lot of really good people thru craigs list and bought a lot of great dishwashers that way. one idiot a year aint bad!

i told him he had a "snotty san diego attitude" and that sealed it for me buying it! oh well, it was too much fun!

do you really want to sell it?

got mine running this week after a 10 hour struggle with the pump and new motor. that d&m design can be the biggest pain to rebuild, plus mine has the old cast iron pump housing, your's prob does too here. gonna post pics of my rebuild here soon. sure love using it, that top rack really spins! over 100 rpm!

yes i am interested in your wonderful lady there! there is nothing as elegant looking as a lady kenmore in it's heyday!

Yes indeed, this one cleaned up so nicely! Selling will depend on what I'm able to find in the near future, but it is a very distinct possibility. Space is a bit limited, and I always need more room so I can rescue other great appliances. It is encouraging that I have a couple wringers going to a good home soon, but I still have yet to place the 1-18 gas dryer. Let me know if you find someone with a gas hookup!

well i'll be darned!

seller e mailed me tonite and apologised, said he is selling dishwasher for his mom and she wants to accept my offer of 150.

i emailed back and also apologised and asked that we start over here. i will contact jim to see if he is indeed going to be in the area that first week of dec.

i had a hunch i might get that dishwasher after all. it does mean a lot to me cause again it was the same pump system as the hotpoint i got as a kid, my first appliance! i kinda feel my collection will be complete if i get this one!

we shall see here!
