Folks I am really stoked to have been able to acquire this set. I have wanted a set with this control panel style for a long time. I would’ve never imagined that I would end up with a matched set in avocado and they are in very good condition.

It’s been unbelievably rainy here and of course it was raining when they were unloaded today so I wasn’t able to get any good pictures. I had Gordon Giffin whose information was recently introduced to us bring them to me and I was very happy with his services. Here’s the picture from the ad. Thread 87675 is where this started. I couldn’t figure out how to link it. Thanks again for posting these Will.

I remember seeing several of that model washer on numerous trips to the nearby Sears furniture and appliance outlet/clearance center as my mom's obnoxious '67 Snorge was on its last legs.  I was doing reconnaissance work in anticipation of the ever-troublesome Snorge's ultimate and much anticipated demise, relishing the thought of it meeting its well deserved fate at a ruthless crusher.  The only better scenario would have been if I could have operated the crusher.

I was quite pleased the day my mom and I went to a regular Sears store and bought a model further up the line, which was full featured and included the Quiet Pak transmission.  It was the antithesis of that despicable, ugly, cheap looking, ear splitting Snorge in every possible respect, and lasted almost four times longer.

Enjoy those machines!  They are beautiful!

Thanks for the positive comments! I’m really excited about these and just amazed at the condition. I don’t think the dryer drum has a mark on it. One day when it decides to quit raining I’ll drag them out for some documenting pictures for sure. I’ve always liked the panel design and I know they were popular in their day but only being about a 2 year production run made these a little harder to come by especially these days. I found a gold set about a year ago but the seller wouldn’t ship. I’m glad now because I like the avocado much better.

Wow, those look unused. Great find! The beginning of the Sears Space Age "printed circuit" style console. I think '75 was the first year.

Yes Patrick it does have the gold penta-vane agitator with the extension on top for the fabric softener dispenser.

Hi Roger, this style control panel was made for 2 model years in a couple of variations. There was a ‘74 60 series where the panel was all aluminum and a ‘74 70 series with a center timer dial with wood grain on either side and 2 knobs to the left on top and 2 knobs on the right on top.

This particular one is a 500 series for ‘75 and the 70 series for ‘75 dropped the 2nd rinse switch and moved the knobs back down to the front with the water level to the left of the timer and the water temps and soak options on the right.

My mom's washer had the selector knobs on the top.  I thought it was a '75 model until Kenmore expert Gordon advised that the knobs on the top made it a '74.  It was an unusual model (gold and rust color scheme on the cycle dial) and I'm not surprised Sears still had them in stock from the previous year during the summer of '75.
