Late 80s WP Power Clean DW
This is almost exactly the same DW that I have three of [ one in each home ], This DW is without a dough the best cleaning and drying DW I have ever used and I have used a lot of DWs LOL. The racking arrangement and design and Silverware basket in the door are also without equal in brilliant functional design, this period was diffidently WP engineering at it best. Reliability and ease of repair were also without equal, a complete pump and motor exchange takes only 15 minutes and it is never necessary to remove the DW from its installation for any repair except to change the entire wash tank.
Hope someone gets this I already have several in reserve for our use.

WP DWs
WP did build an electronically controlled DW in this time period with their name on it, but it was not WPs first ECDW. Their first machine was the 1980 SHU9900 with a cool tilt-out control panel. This machines control system pretty much just mimicked the same cycling of the timer controlled machines, the only real advantage was that it had up to a 9 hour delay that could be used on any cycle. This DW still had the big round filter in the bottom with the [ stinky ] removable trap that could be lifted out and cleaned at the sink, funny how we are now going back to stinky DWs LOL.
When WP came out with the SHU9900s my brother and I bough all six machines that had been used in the local training meetings. We sent one to my Mother & Father in Minnesota Jeff kept one and Michael and I got another. We sold the other three, and I still have one customer that is using one.
WPs last DW with a rapid advance timer was made in the very late 1960s in the prior generation of DWs with the light blue speckled interiors. They did build a KM version in the late 1980s that did have a rapid advance timer, this was the machine that had a thumb-wheel controlled separate timer for setting the delay wash time where the time you set showed through a little window.
One of the other ingenious things about these WP built DWs was they had absolutely the best designed detergent dispensers ever. Not only was it a reliable design that had a real seal that kept the detergent in till it released but it also was designed with a built in gradations for measuring the correct amount of detergent for different water hardness and the cups were BIG enough for use in hard water areas.

Does anyone know if the amperage of the motor for this PowerClean is the same as the last of the PowerClean module dishwashers that were produced a year or so ago.
Just curious if Whirlpool downgraded the motors in these newer PowerClean machines to meet recent Energy Star requirments.

Hi Barry, WP did not change the motor or pump in any way to get the E Star rating. Instead they used just one wash, a purge and one full rinse on the normal cycle. If you wanted to put in really dirty dishes we instructed our customers to use the heavy wash cycle and hi-temp wash which added another full fill wash and a full second rinse instead of the purge. WP also up graded the Power-Clean pump module in the mid 90s when they added the ultra-fine filter under the lower wash arm similar to the system they engineered for the KitchenAid 23 series DWs, They also added the very clever and effective tuning weight to the motors at this time to greatly minimize the motors vibration, sadly the last 5 years or so of production they eliminated the tuning weight as they really started to push the TT machines, but the machines were just as effective.

I always did like the silverware in the door and its cool that the new G.E. design dishwasher has that option also now,it frees up a lot of room.
