rip and tear washing action?

IMHO.......

Don't know why, but my instict says that this would have ripped articeles of clothing and larger articles (like sheets) that got caught between he tubs and vanes (That move in opposite directions) along that yellow line/seam.

So much for the Kenmore (or was it in Whirpool's too?) Golden-gobbler agiator that had no base. Seems it may have had a new rival.
 
Steve, the two tubs locked together and tumbled in one direction for large item loads.

Yes, according to Sears' advertisement on the "golden-gobbler", your clothes were spanked clean.

Now I would imagine some people like the idea of spanking....but associating the concept with cleaning, that is a new one on me.. LOL

How does the "Allergy" machine work and get its approval? Zillions of rinses?

Funny how our American T/L water-hogs with one 25-gallon (100 litre)rinse propbly equals 5 asko F/L 5-gallon rinse (20 litre)
