I have been pretty quiet here for a while. Now a real problem brings me back. My two year old Whirlpool portable DW all of a sudden decided to quit draining today.

The pump sounds very muffled and there is only a mere trickle of water that comes out of the drain hose. I checked the strainers and they had almost nothing in them.

Can anyone help me before I have to call a repair $ervice?

Thanks!

Non Draining WP Portable DW

Check the drain for kinks inside the cabinet, it is easy to take the top off the DW, other common problem is something clogged in the unicuppler where the drain hose attaches to it. You can also tip the DW on its back  [ water will stay in the machine while you do this ] ans check the drain hose below and try disconnecting it blowing through it etc. With the machine on its back it is very easy to remove the drain pump and check for something blocking the pump impeller etc., these are easy machines to work on.

Good Luck, John L.

Okay, I have taken it apart. The drain hose at first seemed obstructed (I couldn't blow through it) but now that it's off the machine, it seems to be fine. I took the pump off too. Nothing visibly wrong with it. I don't have an Ohm meter, though.
What should I do now?

a pic would probably help figuring out which machine you have.....

but actually, go to YouTube, and find pump repairs for your model, or similar, some kenmores are the same....a world of knowledge of what to check, and how to take it apart...

I watched one to clean out the sump area of a Maytag......the end result is better spraying and cleaning...easy as pie!

keep us posted....

My Kenmore portable did the same crap. I took it apart and there were food particles built up in the screen filter.i cleaned it, out and it works fine.

The really weird thing is, I've never had to clean the filters on this machine. I inspect them regularly and it always seems there is nothing in them.

I took the pump down to the appliance store where I bought it. They tested the pump for me and it turns fine, so it must have been an obstruction somewhere that has now cleared.

I will try re-assembling the machine and crossing my fingers that all works well and that I get it back together right...
