Has anyone purchased one of these yet? I'm trying to decide between the Cruse LTZ and a 5 door Titanium Focus. I have managed to over reserch (as usual) the issue and am now fence sitting. Car and Driver (?) magazine slammed the Cruse for it's Cadillac-like ride. But since I want to get trade in my Cadillac that sounds like a plus. On the other hand the Focus will park it self! The fact that I parallel park once a year means nothing, just having the toy would be great. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Several here at work have been going through a new car buying frenzy. Our file lady bought the first Cruze the dealer got it, it's Black/Black with all the toys. They took a trip to Silver Dollar City over Mother's day weekend and got 36 mpg. Not bad fora new engine.
As for the Focus, there are three of those in the new case manager fleet. My impression is Ho-hum. The car was only updated so mostly the same as before with a facelift.
Deciding would be hard. I like the Cruze, but with Chevy's reputation for reliability, personally I would go Ford. Ford is also offering some better prices, with cash on the hood.
Just my $1.00's worth.

The 2012 Focus is the brand spanking newby one. Based on the german design. New body, engine everything. I drove a SE and my secretary has already gotten an SE but no one near here has a Titanium model. One Chevy dealer had a LTZ in stock on internet, by the time I got there it was already sold.

I would suggest going with Ford as they seem to have a better reputation with quality than GM does, and I'd personally be nervous about getting anything from GM during its first model year run, just seems like its asking to buy a lemon

Near as I can tell, both of these have been around in Europe for a while. The auto trans in Focus is new but the rest of the two cars has supposidly been "tested" for a gazillion miles to hell and back

I'd go with the CRUZE! From the reviews I've read, it seems like GM has done a pretty decent job with the development of this car. It's been tested in different countries all over the world with varying road and weather conditions. Also, the Cruze scored 5 STARS in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety test crashes, and comes equipped with 10 STANDARD air bags. The Cruze Eco is also rated at getting 42 mpg
The "parking assist" OPTION on the Focus scares me a bit. What happens if it should go out or becomes haywire while you're parallel parking, and your car damages the front and rear car behind you? It's kinda like the 57-59 Ford hardtop convertible that came out during that time period. There were numerous complaints of the top not going down or properly returning to it's full upright position, and getting stuck half way.
And Xray, ANY car maker with ANY model can be a fluke or a lemon, whether it be a brand new model or one that's been on the market for a few years. However, I would also wait until the 2012 comes out before buying one, just in case the 2011 model has a few bugs that need to be worked out.
That's my .02 cents on the subject. But cuffs, since you'll be the buyer, the decision is yours.

It is unfair of you to inject logic into this decision! I haven't parallel parked in forever, but think about the kewl factor points just showing it off! I will admit that the cost of it vs the usefulness of it is stupid. I think the sonar system that both cars offer would do just fine (although two days after I bought the Cadillac I backed into my partners car because I was "distracted" by the annoying strange beeping sound the car was making.)
Plus I really have had good luck with my GMC/Chevy dealer. They have serviced my last four cars only one of which I bought from them and continue to treat me great. They service my Cadillac perfectly (but can't do warranty work).

I may just be a bit biased as I've had great luck with the 2 Ford products I've owned as well as the several Fords that have been in the family, as almost everyone exclusively does Ford or Lincoln now. Plus I have always recieved top notch service from the 2 dealers I hadsrvicemy cars.
Now GM on the other hand I have had a 50/50 experience I had 3 Buicks, 1 Chevy, 1 Oldsmobile, and a Cadillac, only the 3 Buicks have been fairly trouble free and the other 3 were mechanical and electronic nightmares. Also I havenver recieved good service from any GM dealer, I take them to an independent garage unless it is something warranty or recall, but my current Buick the warranty ran out about 6 years ago.
I really do want to like the quality and service of GM but Ford just seems to have them beat on thoe aspects for me, which is why th Focus would be my choice

Xray, the warranty issue is part of what's driving this project (no pun intended). The Cadillac is paid for and is a super vehicle but with 80+ mile round trips daily and $70.00 oil changes and TWO different tires sizes the maintance costs are getting on my nerves. I've got about 3K left under warranty but GM has a recall on the engine that could effect life span and I will OCD it ever time I hear a strange noise.

may I ask what model Cadillac you have? I'm going to assume a CTS.
I had a DeVille and it started coming unglued at about 72k miles, that and the fact that it always burned oil annoyed me, the Northstar is nothing compared to the trusty old 3800 that has been in every Buick I've owned. Trust me owning a Cadillac after the warranty expires can be a very costly and ugly thing(at least with the Northstar engine)

It's an 08 SRX. As much study as I'm doing now is as little as I did when I bought the SRX. I literally was driving off the lot when the salesman "mentioned" the need for two different tire sizes. Of course, only two companies make matching tires and my Visa card is still smoking. I'm OK with using Mobil One per Cadillac but it uses 6qts. My Aztec is still going strong at 102K with regular oil changed every 3k (ignoring that stupid "oil life monitor" in both cars)

it sound like you got a good one, my DeVille was a lemon, it took 7.5 qts ofoil and I burnt 1 qt every 1500 miles. I changed the oil every 3000 miles too. now my Park Avenue I currently have as a daily driver has 158,000 miles with only minor issues and I only use a llittle oil becauseof a small oil pan leak, I dont think my Cadillac would have make it to 100k much less over 150k, which was sad asI reallyloved that car, but its Lincoln replacementhasnt cost me a penny to own other than routine oil changes and tires

I saw a Chevy Cruze (base model) on display at a Costco today. The member price was under $17000, which is pretty good these days for a sedan that seats five. It looked like a quality vehicle, well put together, at least from what I could tell from the outside (the doors were all locked). For example, all the gaps in the sheet metal were uniform (something the Japanese figured out a long time ago, but has taken American mfgs a while to duplicate). The list of features is extensive - this is no stripped down mode.. I like that it comes with a six speed manual trans, and A/C. Now, if they had a wagon for the same prices...
I liked the old Focus ZX3. Never drove one, but it looks like the perfect commuter car and all around small hauler. I was sad when Ford decided to drop the three door hatch from the Focus line. I like small cars - they tend to handle much better than larger ones, even if the ride can be a bit harsher.

More stuff to confuse an old man like me. The loaded Focus Titanium's are pretty much all being ordered with the handling package. The good news: 18 " wheels (Cruze has them standard on LTZ) the bad news: you get "low profile summer tires" with a full size spare. BUT not a matching wheel and the spare take up a bunch o' luggage space.
