It's simple common sense

1. Towels (3-4 uses)

When it was new (86) I was known to wash my car 3 times in the same day. Does that count? I'm a little more lax 30 years later, I only do the windows. Washing it would take more of the paint off. But it still starts on the second revolution.

There's a reason I skip certain websites...

Rant alert:

There are two features of web pages I simply cannot handle...

-Having to plod through a video that takes three minutes to get information I could probably read in less than 30 seconds.

-Having to click through screen after screen to read something as there's only one paragraph of text per screen.

As soon as I see hints of either one, I look for a "print friendly" option as that usually has much more info per page. If I don't see one, I'm gone.

That said, here's my main point:

If a guy grows up around people in the medical profession (in my case I was literally surrounded by nurses), he learns concepts of "clean" & "dirty" as well as what constitutes "cross contamination dangers" that are very different from what the general population learns.

-If you polish off a container of yogurt and open a new one, use a new spoon else you're introducing 'old' microbes into a new feeding ground.
- If a baby is crawling around an putting everything it can into its mouth, you can stop sterilizing the bottle's.... really.
-If it's been damp for the past week, you have to wash towels more frequently because they take longer to dry, giving critters more time to be fruitful and multiply.

I used to think everyone learned this stuff growing up, but I've learned that's not always the case.

A customer at the supermarket once told me this:

INDIVIDUALS are smart. People are stupid.

Perhaps that explains your last sentence?

I'm always amazed

by the things that are common sense to me....that seem so foreign to others in the world, especially with today's younger generation who were never taught...  Heck, my nephew who just got married today at 22, didn't know what wire pliers were a couple years ago!  And what Jim said, I second that, as I am a nurse.

>If it's been damp for the past week, you have to wash towels more frequently because they take longer to dry, giving critters more time to be fruitful and multiply.

I sometimes swim for exercise, and I've known guys who have A) reused towels repeatedly for a week, and B) not had those towels stored so as to dry quickly. And, of course, those towels are being used in a locker room, which is an environment where picking up all sorts of "delightful" nasties is possible.

My approach: towels used in a locker room are used one time and one time only, and then they are washed. Maybe I could get more use out of them, but I really don't want to be drying body parts covered by my swim suit, and wondering if that area will be suffering jock itch next week at the same time.

My towels are used once then washed.
Sheets once or twice a week including weekly wash of my duvet.
Don't use makeup lol
Pillow cases every week and every month my pillows get a quick steam cycle in the washer
