Rebuild of washer

Can anyone tell me about what I should look out for when I get these machines home? My experience with Frigidaire is quite limited.

First things first

Plug in to make sure there isn't a dead short. Before operating the machine fill it with enough super hot water to cover the pulsater to moisten the bellows underneath. After setting for a while look to see if any water leaked out which would indicate a brittle and broken bellows. If there is still water try a spin and see if it pumps and if any leaks come from beneath. Its not uncommon to have the drain hose become brittle. If all is well hook up the hoses to the water supply and see if the fill valves activate. If so let the machine fill with hot water and run through a test cycle to make sure the timer advances and no leaks appear. If you made it this far success can almost be tasted. Its never a good idea to leave it running unattended until you have developed a trust level and found the correct diameter hose for replacement to keep on hand. Good Luck

Bethann would be going bonkers

Wow - amazing find.  Gongrats!!  Testing the washer follows the same steps as testing most other brands of washers that has been sitting for quite sometime.  Some great advice has been provided here and don't be shy just because it's a Frigidaire.

Here's the thread from when I had my '56 delivered.  Ask plenty of questions - several of us here have been around these a time or two.  :)

The first rule

Is always to get hot water into the pump and let it set for a while before turning on motor. The protocol is to pour HOT water into the drain hose, a couple quarts or more. Let the water do its solvent work, maybe 10 miniutes or so. Then turn the dial to rinse. The pulsator will start and the water will pump out. You're in business. Good Luck with what Ben has christened this model as, "The Red Headed Orphan."
