60'S WESTINGHOUSE LAUNDROMAT ON EBAY!!!

Westinghouse Laundromat washer, sat for 30 or so years in storage unused. Old slant-front design, but oval window indicates that this machine isn't from the 1950's. Would make an excellent "fixer-upper" project. "Works, but doesn't work" so to speak; motor runs but pump leaks, has a 2-prong cord, belt is loose, and squeals during spin (tub bearing problem?). Seller didn't mention water valve, and whether or not timer advances is unknown. This machine will also need a new coat of paint, especially for the top.

Any takers? Jetcone? GregM? Save this beauty!

That is a cool Laundromat...I would guess it is a 1960 or 61 model. It seems like there was a very similar model dryer on Ebay about a year ago. Too bad they didn't pop up at the same time.

Thanks Westy never seen one with that control panel. "YOU CAN BE SURE IF IT'S WESTINGHOUSE" kinda has that styling like that Sears Kenmore dryer, that was "designed to compliment any washer". Thanks for the link. You know when I first looked at that i thought it might have been a westy rebadged as a wards, but i see the westy emblem.

This washer up for bids is a slant-front, but not a slanted tub - perhaps one of the first "potato-pulley" models?

I had the matching dryer to this washer at one time. It's a BOL model. All the dryer had was the timer knob...

Yes, it's a shame that any classic washer and dryer isn't found as a pair. If I still had the dryer, I'd be bidding on this washer. The good part is that I bet parts are still readily available for this guy. Anyone who gets it should be able to fix it up in no time.

HEY!!

I have a westinghouse dryer that looks just like the washer that was in the picture with the tide! It's awesome and suppossedly works, no rust or nothing. How do you guys find out about all of these things? I was lucky to even find this page. I was about to throw it out or at least use it til I bought a new one. How do I figure out how to use it or anything else about it? I'm a little new to this and just randomly found it in the basement of my new house.

Hi Nikki, a vintage dryer like that should be very easy to use. Try turning the timer knob to 10 or 15 minutes and see if the dryer tumbles properly and heats up. Then try to dry some wet clothes. If it doesn't have an automatic cycle, start the dryer at 30 minutes and see how dry they are after a half hour of drying.
