My Mom Had an Identical Machine

My Mom had an exactly identical machine from 1960 to 1968, and the she gave it to my Grandmother, who used it until she died twenty years later. (Mom got another FF, a 1969, which she used another thirty years.) Twenty eight years for the 1960 machine!!! I don't even think we ever even had to have it worked on! I remember placing my hand on the lid and feeling how warm it was when the machine was washing (back in the days when hot water was 160 degrees). I still remember the gurgling sounds it made and the lighted dial. Our clothes were always clean.

BTW, it looks like you swapped out the black Activator cap for a turquoise one from 1959. The filter pan looks original.

What A Beauty!

I almost popped a woodie, when I saw the pics of your machine! I always loved the GE FF's. I loved their ability to wash, and rinse like few other MFG's, as well as their very futuristic styling. They always made great noises, as well as put on such a great show while washing. The only thing missing from your post, was a video of your machine, doing its thing. Hint Hint!
Hug's,
David

Oh, now...

THAT is pretty! The composition of your pictures is always so artful! Now, can we have a coffee-fueled video, please? Pretty please?

Mike, it was a completely different agitator with 4 paddles at the base, each with a rounded presenting edge that extended just beyond the skirt. The one piece plastic filter pan was great protection from moisture for the top of the agitator shaft that was covered only by the screw down cap, but then they went to the one piece agitator, eliminating the problem.

Beautiful restoration Jon! As usual, your photos are great too.

Brake

The amazing difference with this solid tub is that it has a brake which makes the tub index and roll over is amazing. I saw one like it at Greg's in Omaha and was amazed.

Noonday Piracy in the Boston Harbor ;'D

Mike, here''s the shot with the secret of GE's Clean: convincing extended fins.

Martin, I saw what you and Andy wrote about the filter flume. I was curious about the cool fill flume and why they moved it and altered it.

Jon, I hope you're okay. Your storm and Boston were the lead story on the PBS Newshour last night: very rare. Say Hello and let us know.

Disgusting

much too much appeal...

what models came with the external bleach dispensers..noticed an ad showing the FF with one of those..

and...are you running out of room for a matching dryer? :-)

Water Saver

There's no water level switch here. Is the WATER SAVER switch the level switch, you just hit it yourself when you decide that's enough, or it fills for full load otherwise? Will it remember that setting for the rinse? Please explain-

Very cool machine, I like all those buttons and choices, lots of variety. Thanks for the pictures--
