Beautiful restoration Jon! As usual, your photos are great too.

Brake

The amazing difference with this solid tub is that it has a brake which makes the tub index and roll over is amazing. I saw one like it at Greg's in Omaha and was amazed.

Noonday Piracy in the Boston Harbor ;'D

Mike, here''s the shot with the secret of GE's Clean: convincing extended fins.

Martin, I saw what you and Andy wrote about the filter flume. I was curious about the cool fill flume and why they moved it and altered it.

Jon, I hope you're okay. Your storm and Boston were the lead story on the PBS Newshour last night: very rare. Say Hello and let us know.

Disgusting

much too much appeal...

what models came with the external bleach dispensers..noticed an ad showing the FF with one of those..

and...are you running out of room for a matching dryer? :-)

Water Saver

There's no water level switch here. Is the WATER SAVER switch the level switch, you just hit it yourself when you decide that's enough, or it fills for full load otherwise? Will it remember that setting for the rinse? Please explain-

Very cool machine, I like all those buttons and choices, lots of variety. Thanks for the pictures--

The water saver has to be selected for each fill otherwise it fills completely. It has to fill to where water is running out over the top of the tub for the FilterFlo to work. The water level pressure switch is in the sump of the outer tub.

Jon

thanks for the video.....that is just outstanding......

would a V12 ramped agitator fit in one of these, or are they too tall?

Isn't there a small drain at the bottom of the tub to let some water escape for the filtering system even if the tub isn't full?

I think I saw something like that while reading Jon's paper documentation.

Phil There is a sediment cone but that hole

is too small for the FF cycle. Also this machine has one hole punched half way up the tub, I guess to help out with half tub washing but I haven't used the WATER SAVER yet to see if it would  work.

Yogi-No the agitator is too small for the ramped style, this is a solid tub machine.

Water Saver

Taken from the 1959 "Use and Care" book:

"Small loads (up to 5 pounds of clothes with no one piece larger than a man's shirt) can be laundered using the water saver feature.  Follow the general procedure for laundering according to the model being used with the following exceptions.

1.  The detergent must be placed in the washer and allowed to dissolve before adding the clothes.

2.  When detergent is dissolved, for personal safety push control to "OFF" position and be sure that all parts of washer have stopped moving, then add clothes.  Replace Filter Pan.

3.  Pull out control knob and machine will continue to fill with water.  When the desired amount has entered, press the WATER SAVER Control momentarily - then release.  Be sure the level of the water in the washer is not below the ridge on the Activator, regardless of how small the load.  After the washing portion of the cycle is complete, the washer resets automatically for a full tub of water.  If a partial fill is desired for rinsing, return to the machine while it is filling for the rinse portion of the cycle.  When desired amount of water has entered, press the WATER SAVER Control.

WHEN LESS THAN A FULL WASHBASKET OF WATER IS USED, RECIRCULATED WATER DOES NOT ENTER THE FILTER PAN."

Wow!

The 1960 GE magazine with the "live" cover is amazing. Wonder how many years away that is, (grinning).

When my Aunt got this in pink and I first saw the switches for both Water Saver AND Suds Saver, I nearly discorporated. Great close up, and thanks for the memory. Seeing the power of the fill flume is so satisfying. What a truly beautiful washing machine!

Is the suds kill a spray rinse?

And what are we flyin' at here? It looks pretty fast.

Wonderful Video Jon!

Love the picture of the white wash load all finished that Mike reposted. You know its a vintage solid tub machine if the clothes come all the way to the top of the tub evenly during spin. Love that!

Second attempt

I think I know what happened. If you click on the link you posted you get your complete playlist. So, if you post the embed link of that video, it embeds your whole playlist.
I think that is due to changes on Youtube. I see playlists more often as recommendation too. Stupid Youtube!

I think this should work for the video.
