WOW! That's quite a range. It is amazing how central to daily family life the range used to be: two, sometimes three, meals weekdays and three on weekends, not to mention specialty baking and possibly preserving. Virtually nothing was instant. As youngsters, my mother and her sister baked bread for the family (before loaf bread was sold in the grocery store and they would not have had money to buy it anyway), fried doughnuts, baked cakes and pies; it's an amazing amount of work all of that meal preparation was.
I still enjoy preparing my meals, but I would not want to be cooking for more than myself anymore.
