arse in the wash.

It is the fresh scent and it smells fine when dry. But after the tub fills and agitation begins.......whoa! Can you imagine a 2 week old opened can of Bumblebee tuna? It reeks. I thought my sewer might be backing up but no, it is fine.

Oddly enough, the rinsed items smell ok, perhaps a tad of fresh scent and when dry, smell just fine.

Has anyone else noticed this? I don't have this stench when I use liquid A&H.

What gives?

Do I need to take a giant leap forward and start with PODS? Or should I try to make my own batch?

Inquiring minds want to know............

Some years back I bought a box of A&H powder. It cleaned well enough, but there was something about the scent I couldn't put my finger on. Then it hit: the detergent had the same scent as the A&H cat litter we were also using. I haven't had the desire to use their detergent since.

Speaking of A&H there's a new one on the Walmart shelves, Bio Enzyme Power.. it comes in liquid and pod/paks the paks are 2 chambers liquid and powder. I can not find the paks on the A&H website. I know the paks contain enzymes but don't know which ones and sodium percarbonate. I used 2 in my SQ. TL for a full load had a couple large bubbles ut no froth, and everything came out clean fresh and soft. The scent is very nice...Cheryl

Ben,

I've noticed this too.  I thought it was kind of peculiar. The stuff smells great in the box and after the wash is complete, but when water hits it....  I wonder if it is a chemical reaction with my high chlorine city water?

You may be on to something imperial70

I noticed that too. Dry, smells great. Mix with my somewhat over chlorinated water and yeeeeehs, talk about reek. Oddly enough, the rinsed, wet laundry does not smell bad at all. Smells just fine when dry too.

I found the Sears detergent does something similar

Does the A&H powder leave a scent out of the dryer? Like its fragrance I mean ....

Can't answer that one Joeypete

because I use the A&H dryer sheets. Perhaps next load I will dry the stuff without and report back.

I'm nearly out of the free and clear and I will use up the powder, then move onto the jug with Oxyclean I scored for 5.99 at my local grocer.

After that, I don't know what I will use. Won't be Tide because it makes me break out although it does clean like a beast.

Cool thanks! I bought some of the liquid with Oxi Fresh Scent. It was on sale for $1.99 for the small bottles I had to try it lol. I LOVE the smell. It's quite strong out of the dryer too.I like powder better so I was hoping it would leave the same scent.

Be careful with the Oxiclean detergent if you haven't used it before, I bought a bottle when they first brought it out, and aside from very "blah" cleaning performance, it made everyone in the house break out, even my Dad who is allergic to NOTHING. I like Arm and Hammer liquids (if the price is right, like I can get it on sale for $2.99 with an additional $1 digital coupon) but I stopped buying their powders sometime around 2009 when they changed the formula and scent. The powder used to be an ultra fine white powder that dissolved easily even in cold water, and a nice, light fresh scent (or even the free and clear version was great, left no trace of odor at all), cleaning was awesome. The last time I bought it, the powder was a coarser texture, and the cleaning and scent had changed.

I thought the A&H powders were about the only detergent left with a true original scent, never been changed original? ? Course can't remember where I heard that from.

I think I noticed the sears detergent powder

to do this too, but not nearly the extent you're talking about. I have a FL washer and rarely to I need to pause the machine to add a garment, but the times I have had to do that, while I was in there I felt the temp to make sure the water was hot, and there was a slickness feeling to the clothes, which I have read is a good thing, and there was this weird smell. Not really horribly off putting, but not what I would call a fresh scent in that moment......but clothes smelled clean and fresh when finished and dried. The current Windfresh detergent that I'm using doesn't do this. At first I wasn't sure about the smell of it, but I've ended up LOVING it.. I like detergents that have a hint of a clean smell, but not overpowering.
