Check this out - I was hoping to get rid of some machines this year since I found AW, and I probably will find a few some homes over the next months, this is what I've accumulated in the meantime. The only washer I had before was in my storage trailer until I located this better room - it's the machine on the far right front, which is a match to my mother's second Kenmore. Behind it, though you can't pick it out, is a match to her third.

This is a spectacular gas dryer

I would almost say it's never been used, except there is a bit of lint in the screen, though there is not even any wear marks from where the screen has been inserted and removed a time or two.

That's not nuts......

That a dream come true!!!

BTW, imagine your stash, cut it by a third, and then stuff it in a livingroom. That's nuts :)

So Kevin, I must ask, define "nuts" please...

OK Gordon, in your case I think ALL of the below applies... all EXCEPT #5a, that one is not anywhere close! LOL...LOL...
(All in fun... all in fun.)

1. a dry fruit consisting of an edible kernel or meat enclosed in a woody or leathery shell.

2. any of various devices or ornaments resembling a nut.

3. a block, usually of metal and generally square or hexagonal, perforated with a threaded hole so that it can be screwed down on a bolt to hold together objects through which the bolt passes.

4. a foolish, silly, deranged, lunatic, eccentric, crazy, insane or psychotic person.

5. Slang.
a. a person who is very enthusiastic about something; buff; enthusiast; devotee: He's a real "washer" nut.
b. an extremely concerned or zealous person: My boss is a nut on double-checking everything.

Ok

I see a 1961 Kenmore that was the same machine that my mother had when I first watched an automatic washer. If you decide it needs a new home, let me know.

Thanks

Awesome pictures Gordon. Those washers look brand new, just like they once had been. The Kenmore in picture #3 is quite interesting. Was the Kenmore on the front left of Picture #1 a 1979 Model 80? If so, that is the match to one my next door neighbor had when I was growing up.

Have a good one,
James

James -

Yes, the machine in white on the far left is indeed a 1979 80 series. It is probably the least feature-filled 80 series I've ever seen, and has the highest model number. It must have been developed for a promotion, as the two 80 series models below it in the 1979 line-up had the same timer, but more water levels, dispensers, and a porcelain top. That is actually the same model that I bought used for my sister in early 1990 and is the first washer I worked on last spring after my 10-year hiatus. She used it for 11 years before my brother-in-law learned that it was over 20 years old and insisted that they get something new. That washer has since already been replaced by a front loading LG, which they don't seem too enthused about.

An 80 series with three water levels and only a porcelain lid is weird to me. I'd love to know why they did that, as this was more commonly a lower 70-series machine, and even the entry level 70 in 1980 had four levels (see the suds model I mentioned).

About your question Jim (autowasherfreak)

I have a varied lot of Whirlpools, but those two are both standard capacity models. The one on the left is a 1969 Avocado machine, I think a Supreme. It has a lighted panel, six, yes SIX water levels, self-cleaning filter, etc. The other is comparably equipped as a 1981 model but with infinite levels. Cool part about it is it was made in Michigan, not Ohio like most machines back then.

Both are looking for a good home, especially the Avocado machine, which works fine and could be installed right now and used, though I have not tested it myself.
