... wrong. My grandparens had a Sandstone Hotpoint WMA34. It died after pump failure. They replaced it with a 2008 Hoover Optima OPH147D. They always use either Cottons 40, or Silks 30. This is an OK machine with average quality. It wouldn't have been my choice but it was on a 'Managers Special' at I think it was Euronics. I've watched it wash a few times now and me and my Grandad have noticed a glitch. When the display says one minute left, it says this for about five minutes. What is going on here?

P.S: The picture isn't mine, I will get a real photo of it when I go round to their house.

Normal thing

That happends when something unexpected happends in the wash... example sudslock, or too much re-balancing.. some machines freeze time when they start re-balancing, others just keep counting down until they come to 1 minute, and they stay like that till cycle is actually finished :)

So, Nothing to worry about ;)

My nana's brand new Hotpoint Aquarius+ does this at the end of the cycle but it keeps adding minutes on the wash during the pump out stage, so a 30 minute quick wash suddenly becomes 34 minutes. When we were washing curtains (that weighed under 6kg), the washer added 5 minutes on during the spin.

Fortunately my washer updates in "real time" and will even alert you that the programme end time has been delayed... however the AEG 86741 I used to own had a bad habit have sticking at the last minute before the wash drained for the rinses... would only be for 3 or 4 mins but still annoying nonetheless!

Otherwise, the other washers we've owned with time displays (Bosch and Miele) have been pretty spot on with time keeping

My Affinities do the same thing when they're handling a greatly off balance load like bed linens. It maight say 1 minute but won't slow down for at least another 3.

Another Optima problem!

We hand-washed my new T-shirt and then span it in the Optima at 800rpm. it spent 7 of the 10 minutes just rotating slowly. It then ramped up to 800rpm on the second to last minute, and then stayed at 1 minute (like before but worse) for 9 minutes. We pressed Start/Pause and nothing happened. We switched it off, put it back on spin again, this time 600rpm, and it did the same thing. It then ended and the door lock wouldn't open for about 5 minutes. We then opened the door by force.

Please can someone tell me what the problem is!

Jacob
