Yes, that's Cameron Carpenter. Brilliant, genius, eccentric, controversial. All the components in place to make him a huge star.

As to the organ he's playing - it is an electronic organ that has literally torn the organ profession apart with proponents and adversaries taking sides for or against. The shame of it is that one of the richest churches in the world, who could have any organ they wanted, have chosen this digitally sampled organ. Why? Who knows. One can't argue with the attention, fame, and infamy this organ has brought them. Again, not that they need any of that so "fame" is unlikely the reason.

btw the church is Trinity Wall Street in Manhattan, heavily damaged during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The pipe organ was a total loss. Originally, the digital instrument was installed as an interim instrument until a real pipe organ could be designed and built -- a process that can take several years. After living with this organ, the church officials decided to scrap the idea of a pipe organ and keep the digital substitute permanently.

That was great. And he's not hard to look at either. Here's a link to him playing Stars & Stripes for those not into classical. I'm a huge classical organ fan, also play but certainly not that well, hell my feet wouldn't move that fast to save my life LOL
I took my 12 y.o. niece to a concert a few years ago when some of the worlds finest were in town but the organist who was playing at the one we were at was only playing sort of droll Poulenc etc.. I was a bit disappointed because there were quite a few schoolkids in the audience and my niece and I think it probably soured them for life on organ music.. I was hoping he would at least realize his audience and finish it off with something like Stars & Stripes or the Washington Post March. Something fun.

Why is he dressed like he is going to a gymnastics meet? Most organists that I have seen usually wear something dark and more formal. In keeping with the decorum of the venue.
His playing was fine, but those feet in white boots kind of bothered me for the first reason I stated.
I just figured it was for showmanship. The white really stands out so you can see what he's doing.

oh really~

Fun to watch - but does not make happy feelings to hear.

I just do not 'get' that classical organ stuff. It simply does not make me 'happy feelings' and that's all I expect (or accept) from music.

It's very impressive to see him move his extremities so quickly, but the music is just about un-listenable, and that white outfit and shoes - well - didn't look appropriate for the venue.

Hated it~ BOO~

Forget ruby shoes ...

I want white ones!

He has brilliant technique and the best shoes - they are absolutely perfect for playing. They have a nice pointed toe for getting one pedal at a time, and the heel allows easy toe-heel-toe movements up the clavier. You can see him pointing his toe and using the tip, rather than using the ball beneath his big toe. The best bit was seeing the final chords with both feet ... amazing.

I sure wish I'd been able to play like that when I was trying ... fantastic!

I can't imagine playing that Chopin etude on the organ. He was playing the piano left hand part on the pedals. My, he sure is talented for sure and I do love it when we see showmanship too. I just wear a black robe when I play at church, which is appropriate too I guess. Have fun . Gary

Gary...

I've noticed that he plays the left hand part with the pedals most of the time. He surely IS an inspiration! At one point on the JPS work, he is playing 4 hands! Mark

Truly awesome!!!!

I have heard some good organists, but he is great. I love the classical music and especially music written for organ. The organ to me is one of the most grand of musical instruments.

His pedal work is amazing!!!

What amazes me is that the organ is a digital instrument. So he has midi at his fingertips as well.

That is interesting to watch--CC plays a MEAN pedalboard! On the SSFE peice-liked the part of "Look no hands!" as he was playing.Just another example of how to play an organ.the white gymsuit dressing is very diffrent. Not used to seeing concert organists wearing that type of attire.I suppose wearing the min attire makes it easier for him to play the pedalboard rapidly.
