Robert has been worried about my new Bendix habit. Especially concerning the WI-57 and its lack of use So, In honor of our birthdays, I fired it up today , its been along time.
Washed beautifully BUT that SPIN OY! It sounds like a machine gun it vibrates so bad. Good thing Greg and I parted out another 57 so now I have all the parts to make this baby humm again. She's next on the list and then the Blackstone, then level the landlocked 1-18 and then it will be time for a
WASH IN!

Austin I am way over due

to hose a wash in here, Rich has had to shoulder the burden and he has had somewonderful parties! Especially Christmas now its my turn to open the doors up. I have been fixing broken machines for months now and just about have them all ready to go.

Is the snubber plate clean and hand rubbed in a figure eight pattern to a bright shine? It may not need all the work you think it does?

Vibration

I just now remembered...when Glenn was over here for the fix-in and we were running the WO-65-2 on the first test run after the repair, it was rattling on spin. Glenn thought that perhaps a hose clamp on the tub-to-pump hose was rattling against the cabinet, as it sounded just like a machine gun as you described...a fast rhythmic tapping sound. A few days afterward, I was washing another load when the rattling continued, so I pulled the machine out again (to correct the nonexistent clamp situation) and climbed behind it to find no such problem, strange! After running a few more loads, the problem seemed to clear itself up and the only rattle now is the 'loose fan rattle' that happens occasionally during wash. It was out of service for a few months before we were able to repair it, so I wonder the rattling was simply caused by lack of use?

Hi Robert

The mechanism support in this one and my '56 have hardened to concrete. You can hardly rock the tub by hand so all that high frequecy short wavelength vibration generated at 1140 top speed is no longer absorbed by the rubber and is now directly transmitted to the cabinet.

There may also be a problem with the snubber like Greg says and like you mentioned the spring has slunk to the right so the tubs hangs and does not center anymore.

Also while running it last year it may have snapped a weld in the cabinet so I will have to go over that with a fine tooth comb.

All parts are in stock,I just need to repair the Duomatic and then I'll have space for it.

Great machine Jon! Love the 1957 models. Did this one come from the farm?

My white Tower Top vibrated too much when I first got it home. I cleaned up the snubber and sanded the bottom plate per Roberts instuctions, and now it runs like a dream. You might want to try that first. The machine can only sit on one side, or else the oil runs out the vent hole. Can't recall what side the machine has to lay down on. I supported the Unimatic mech.on top of a paint can while the bottom plate was removed.

Yes this machine came off the farm, sat in S.Dakota mud for 20+ years. That cold and hot extreme out there hardens the rubber. My '56 also came from there and I have never been able to run it but I now have another mechanism support plate for that too.

I did a complete rebuild on this machine quite a few years ago so this should be a quick weekend change out.

I am dying to "hose a wash in" I like that! "Hose a Wash-In" it makes perfect sense??No???

Sometimes typos can be inspiration!
