a question about SpeedQueen

Hi all
I want to know how the speed queen and the fridgiare with the solid tubs worked. how can you extract water from a tub with no holes? How did the water drain??
Also, on the Frigidairs with the skinny mini, how did that work? the agitator and the tub were one solid unit. I am dying to know.

Solid tub washers had a row of holes at the top, usually under the top rim. Centrifical (sp) force developed by a spinning tub will throw the water up the sides, away from the center and through the holes into an outer chamber or tub, then pumped out of the machine. Lighter than water soil and scum would get thrown with the water and carried away. Heavier than water soil, like sand, would tend to settle at the bottom of the tub and never get completely out.
