Hey all, as the subject line does imply, I do have a question: Overall, what is the best regular (non HE) detergent that will clean AND rinse out well in a Whirlpool DD toploader. The reason I ask is because I really have no idea; I'm a college student and @ home, I have a Neptune, so I just use Tide HE, however, I'm slightly TL illiterate since I haven't had to use one for quite a long time...
I have been using Tide, but if there's anything better, I'm up for it. Thanx!!

I like FAB powder with a little bit of Borax added or All HE. All HE is much cheaper than Tide HE, does a good job of cleaning and is only $4. and some change for a large bottle. Both of these detergents are low sudsing, and rinse out easily so you could actually use them in both front loaders as well as top loaders. I use these in my Whirlpool top loader with excellent results!

Thanx! So, just to clarify, the HE detergents are better rinsing than non-HE ones? And, does it really matter if I use powder or liquid; I can't remember the actual "cleaning" and other differences between them...

To tell you the truth, Purex HE is the best when it comes to a clean rinse and then Arm and Hammer Detergent, everything else will not give a clean rinse. Tide HE has a problem with suds lock during the spin cycle when washing towels and underclothes and Wisk HE absolutely stinks worse than Lestoil when used! Cheer He does the same thing like tide so I would avoid all top brand detergent and go for the basement brand. Sears HE with Oxi-clean cleans well but like I said, it does not rinse well.

Please keep in mind that the new frontloaders uses less water so rinsing is critical when He or regular detergent is used!

I have a Malber no frill frontloader and I've been there and done that!

I agree Cleanteam!

Wish HE stinks to high heaven! I am trying to work thru my two year old bottle and it seems eternally full!

I loved the Purex HE tabs, I bought out the stores when they stopped making it.

And I just picked up ALL powder in new Rain Scent! I would say it is a moderately low sudser and washes terrifically well and rinses pretty good. I would like to hear what it does in your Malber??

cwheeler-- Tide is spendy, but it's hard to beat it for overall cleaning, especially if there's ground in dirt (socks) or stains (shirts) involved. Are you using a commercial coin-op machine or a regular Whirlpool home washer? Either way, I don't think you'll have a rinsing problem.

Ah, college! How I miss it. Of course, I went in the late '70's so I'd keel over if I tried to live THAT lifestyle again! Have fun and may your laundry always be bright....
