I like the abundance of counter space.
Nowadays the garbage chute in the counter has been superseded by the in-sink garbage disposer.
Most homes I've lived in have about 1/4 of the counter space this model kitchen has. It means bread and pastry prep is generally not done. I think in a lot of kitchens, the kitchen table, if available, sees double duty as a food prep area.
And the modern kitchen probably must accommodate a lot more small electric appliances than that kitchen. In addition to the electric mixer, we generally also have: coffee maker, toaster, microwave, rice cooker, blender, toaster oven, electric can opener... to name just a few. Also an under-counter automatic dishwasher... which might eliminate some of those roach nests... lol...
