Hi guys

Some pics and vids of two recent additions: both 1980's Aussie Simpson's.

The first is a medium size 1984 Delta 10. The Delta 10 was introduced in 1979 in response to the Australian public wanting more medium sized automatics for those who didn't need or want a full size automatic.

So, Simpson used the same gearbox from the minimatic and large automatic to create the Delta 10....and it became very popular.

Cheers

2nd Simpson

The 2nd 1980's Simpson i recently picked up is this full size 705.

This was the 2nd last series to use a proper metal gearbox. Simpson introduced the Stainless Steel Bowl in 1987 when this was first purchased. But by this time, they went to electric pumps and a neutral drain.

If anyone is interested in the specs: agitation is 57 OPM at 170 degree washing arc for normal.

Spin is 546rpm....personally i think it's a little anaemic.

For anyone wanting to see what 25 years of washing in cold water does to a washing machine....keep reading!!!!

Now for the ick stuff......

When i first ran the machine without clothes i noticed a lot of floating crud in the water.

So...apart from taking out the lint filter which was disgusting in itself, i decided the go further and see what the outside of the inner bowl was like...

THIS...is what 25 years of washing machine in nothing but cold water produces.....it was disgusting!

WOW Leon...

Two great iconic machines! Tell me though - I've never seen one of these with the Stainless Steel tub before... Were they not popular? I've always seen them with the speckled tubs - but never the SS...

Talk about some scary gunk on that tub...! And what's with all the scratches on the plastic outer tub? Has this machine had some work done in the past you think?

Cheers

SS Tubs...

Hey Steve

Simpson offered the SS tub as the TOL version and charged a higher price. Unlike you and I....unless you're swayed by stainless steel and the automatic suds save feature, most people went for the porcelain enamel version.

As for the scratches on the outer tub....a lot of that was from my paint scraper and steel wool trying to get off all the gunk!

Cheers

A Delta in the UK....

Hey Mike

I didn't realise you had a Delta.....how did you come by it?

The Delta you have would be about 1987...and by this time, the Delta came with the plastic bowl as standard. The 'Genesis' model, which was one above the Delta, had a choice between stainless steel or plastic as well.

I actually have the brochure for your Delta, i will scan it and email it to you when i can.

Cheers

Simpson Delta UK

Hi Leon, yes had this years, I answered an add in a local paper - "Top Loader For Sale" - phoned up and the man of the house answered..."Wifes out, dont know what it is, all I know is that it has a back & forward thing, panel on top with switches, am sure the name begins with an "S"....well I was convinced it was gonna be the Servis MK41, so I legged it over there asap and yes it did begin with an "S" but this one I wasnt reckoning on!!!...Lol

The family brought it back from Aus on a company move so filled the container with everything including the washer!! I find it very quiet, long oscillation and great results, love the mechanism, Tom Turbo says its like the Whirlpool World Washer mecanism.
