I started the restoration of my pink A702 and found the thermostat in the mixer valve is bad. Obviously, the seals are bad too. What are my options for a replacement valve?

Replacement thermostat mixing valves

Are very hard to find for these machines, they're fairly standard, Dole inlet valves in most cases.

Normally, when I have to deal with one of these, I replaced the valve diaphragms that makes them work fine again if there are leaks from the metal plate, where the five screws hold the thermostatic element in place you can just carefully remove it clean the seal and coat it with 3M marine sealant and put it back together that should solve the leak.

Usually, this is sufficient to make these valves work great again, unless you have a valve that had frozen repeatedly or otherwise cracked body. You should be able to save this valve.

Is there a modern valve that can be retrofitted?

The thermostat element with wax inside it does not function anymore.
Unless I can find a replacement part, the only option I see is to retrofit something.

The thermostat isn't critical for operation. Aftermarket valves didn't have the thermostat in them. The thermostat was in there for "warm" to be regulated to 100F and has no effect on the cold or hot settings.

“The thermostat isn't critical for operation.”

So what would happen if warm was selected and the thermostat valve was removed?
Would that allow the hot and cold water to mix but just not be temperature regulated?

I am also looking for the tub bearing. I believe the part number is 204013.
I found new one that supposedly supersedes it: 6-2040130
Does anyone know for sure if that will work for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!

6-2040130 is just an updated part# that Whirlpool decided to change. It's the same product and will work fine. Finding a genuine stem and boot seal kit is the major obstacle these days. The aftermarket ones are not playing nice, even right out of the box.

Boot / stem kit.

That’s a bummer to hear finding a stem kit will be a challenge.

At least I was able to find a OEM agitator seal Y0A4298 / 6-0A57420.
