Wasn't Persil "2 in 1" version the only highly

If so why would Walmart suddenly stop selling?

Know our local Rite Aide has the Persil line and the ProClean 2 in 1 totally sold out. The other versions moved but not nearly so well. Will see what happens when things are restocked. The introduction sale price of $3.99 last week may have also played some small part in the rush.

Saw the '2 in 1' version at Walmart in Worthington, MN, yesterday. Spoke to the manager of the Hy
Vee grocery store I frequent and asked if he could add '2 in 1' to the Persil on offer, explaining that it was the highest-scoring detergent in CR's tests. Lo and behold, there it was when I went shopping this morning. Felt obligated to buy a jug even though I have a couple on hand, LOL.

You're right Launderess: '2 in 1' was the standout in CR's tests, scoring an 85 followed by 81s for Tide Ultra Stain Release and Tide With Bleach Alternative. Other versions of Persil scored in the low to mid 70s, nestled in among Member's Mark Ultimate Clean (Sam's Club), Tide Coldwater Clean, Kirkland Signature (Costco), Wisk Deep Clean, and regular Tide HE (all liquids).[this post was last edited: 10/16/2015-22:53]

I bought a small bottle of the Proclean (not 2 and 1) liquid at WalMart when I bought my Persil pearls.

The pearls rapidly became my favorite and I generally have very little sudsing.

I have used the liquid a half dozen times and I have to be much more careful with dosing. Even with observed incremental dosing, I have had a couple foam-fests. I do have softened water, but its the same for all detergents. For what its worth the liquid I have seems far more touchy then the pearls.

My roommate (who is more of a laundry lover than I am, which is awesome) uses Persil for our clothes and such, and Gain Island Fresh for sheets, towls, bedding and such..Due to my health, everything is washed on hot or on sanitary and the smell from the persil is so awesome, omg..

Im allergic to tide and never liked the smell... Esp the W/Bleach formulation...

Used to use only wisk or advil..Gain was forbidden growing up as mom hated the scent... We used Sears in the big bucket or Fresh start... Until Fresh Start was no more, then I think it was usualy whatever I picked out (all usually)

Persil usage?

I just took out a 2nd mortgage on my house to buy a big box of Henkel's Persil Gold pearls but now that my Front Loader is on the fritz I'll be using it in my top loaders. I have soft water here in Southern CT; any advice on how much to use?

You'll have to up the dose considerably

Based on load size, water use and soil level.

Figure Persil is designed for standard European front loaders that use five or so gallons for washing eleven pounds of clothing. So you'll probably have to scale up to twice to one-third more than the highest dosage on box for a full load.

Haven't tried the American version

But am here to tell you the color stuff from Henkel Germany has a more tenacious scent than Tide and that is saying something.

Did two loads of dress shirts Sunday night. One in Persil color gel the other with Tide "HE" liquid, the older stuff not "Turbo" or whatever. Out of the Miele both sets of shirts packed a strong whiff, however after drying overnight the next day Tide laundered shirts much less so. Meanwhile the Persil washed things were like an Airwick, scenting the entire room. Darn near gave one migraine ironing the Persil washed shirts.

Used line one (Persil Pro Clean Pearls)

Full load, Standerd T.L..and this is the rinse water. Dose a nice cleaning job, but the Touchiest detergent for dosing I've ever used.
( My machine dose a spin rinse, and one deep rinse)

Stan, that is crazy..I haven't had any problems with US persil pearls and I have soft water. Wow that's just insane, but I know someone that beat this over on GW ..she said she used 1/2 tablespoon maybe less of Tide with bleach and had nightmare suds enough for 5 washings..in a full fill SQ top loader.
Stan time to retire your Persil lol. Cheryl

In general

Powdered detergents of any sort will create less froth than liquids.

Powders can rely upon various non foam producing builders (washing soda, borax, phosphates, Zeolites, etc...) for some or all of their cleaning power. Thus the foaming will come from the choice of surfactants; nonionic (low) or anionic (high).

Fresh Start laundry detergent of old was so low foaming because it was mainly phosphates, nonionic surfactants and later enzymes.

Every single Persil or other European liquid/gel laundry detergent one has used (Ariel Excel, St. Croix, included) has proven to require careful dosage to avoid excess froth and easier rinsing. In fact no longer add STPP to such wash loads as found it just made things worse.

Yes

Same stuff as pictured in reply 29.
I've tried to like this detergent.. Seems to be a favorite, but the balancing act required for me to get a clean rinse, and the scent residue removed on certain cottons seems difficult unless I do a second rinse.
I can't justify this with my T.L machine, and our drought.

If

I use this again, I'll try to snap a pic of agitation during wash, and agitation during rinse.
Might have been O.K with seeing froth from draining wash water. But that was the rinse water.

Sorry Stan, missed that it was the RINSE!!

That being the case, you are using way too much in my estimation. How do you determine / measure dosing?

I have seen minor sudsing in the wash with the liquid, I have never had rinsing problems like that.

German Persil

Seems like the Germans brought some good stuff, huh? But anyway...concerning the froth-factor: The Megapearls over here always produced lots of suds. Just overdose a little and you were done. That's why I stopped using them. Haven't tried the super brand-new formula which just came out a couple of months ago because some people said it would suds less. We'll see...

Wow such variations.

For me the Persil Pro Persils smell and act exactly like the German version of Persil for whites.  Some suds but not too much and the first rinse is milky but not a lot of suds.  Here are pics of a load I did this past monday.  It was 4 queen sheets, and 8 large pillow cases.  The sheets are white and off white in color.  I used a 140F wash and 3 rinses.  At a temp of 140F the washer will do a suds cool down(run cold water in 2 minutes before the wash ends)  to cool the water down.  I posted a pic of the cool down water because you can't see any water in the machine for the wash.  The last rinse contains Suavitel Sunset Rose Scent fabric softener.  This is my favorite scent of FS.

I usually dose by soil level and not load size, or sometimes a combination of both.  If I have a large  or regular load of items with no visible dirt I use a small amount.  If I have a visible soil on some items I may increase the dose just slightly.  If I have visible dirt on a regular load then I will use more.

I have a front loader not top, and I typically use 2 tablespoons for no visible soil.  For these sheets I used 3 tablespoons and added an extra rinse.

The pics are:  Suds cool down of the wash, First rinse, Second rinse, Last rinse.

The next time I do a load in the Persil Perls 2n1 I will try to remember to take pics.

In my opinion liquids seem to generate more suds than powders, so it is really  important to take the soil level in to account instead of relying on the manufacturer's recommendation of using different lines for different load sizes.  That entire way of dosing  - without mentioning soil level - doesn't make sense to me.

Hi Phil

The dosing of the Pearsil Pearls was line one on the cap.
Here is a pic of the rinse water on a different load using my own mix of Strong Lye Soap, STPP, and Soduim Percarbonate.
