I'm a new member, and was curious what the gurus thought. I have a Kenmore 60 series TL washer and dryer. I got it for free about 7 years ago, and had to put a new power cord on the dryer. The ONLY issue I had with the washer was replacing the leaking recirc pump. My wife and I recently had our 2nd child, and we are doing laundry daily. I know the washer is at least 21 years old, and could go at any time. I have been doing some researching into new washers, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing with respect to a new HE washer (TL). One is lucky if you get 10 years out of a new washer. My questions are these:
1)Do I keep using the Kenmore 60 series until it dies?
2)If I do decide to replace it with a newer washer, what would be a reliable brand to purchase? I've seen good things about Fisher & Paykel and Speed Queen.

Any input would be much appreciated!!

First off- Welcome to AW.ORG

Yes as Dadoes mentioned if you can post the entire serial# of the machine along with the model # the people on here can give you a better idea on what you may possibly expect from your machine.

If you could also post a picture or two of it that would also help.

The more information that you give about the machine the easier it is to find the answer you are looking for.

The people here are a great group willing to help whenever possible and are a great source on information.

Good machine...they're effective and simple. Easy to fix and rarely break. I would run it until it's no longer practical to fix it.

Serial C939 = 39th week of 1989.

The outer tub is plastic so it's not a source of rust.  You've changed the inner basket.  The tub support centerpost can deteriorate and generate rust (part # 389350, $89 more/less plus labor, and I believe includes new centerpost bearings already in place).  Rusting can also loosen from beneath the cabinet top and fall into the basket but doesn't seem from your pictures to be much cosmetic rusting.
