AEG PC Update Models...help!

Hi all, this is probably more centred around the european members but if anyone has any info, i would appreciate it.

I have a 3 year old AEG 16810 washer dryer. Have to say, the rinsing ability of this machine leaves much to be desired. This is not totally due to the low water usage but also Edinburgh is an EXTREMELY soft water area!!!
Thing is, I wondered if, as these machines are PC updateable (able to reprogramme the machine to comply with advances in washing technology), if it would be possible for the engineers to increase the water levels for the cottons and easy cares programmes rinses to the level used by the woolens programme, for example.
I called AEG today and got the answer "activate the 'extra rinse' button" (obviously, the advisor had no clue what I was talking about!)
HAs anyone had a chance to ask for their machine to be PC updated? and if so, what did you have changed?
These machines are amazing if they could just take in a little more water for rinsing.
Is that too much to ask?

how technically minded are you? Are you able to look under the bonnet and tell us about the pressure switch? Is it single level, two level, infinitely variable?

With a bit of luck we can advise you on how to adjust the pressure switch to get a higher level. I have done it to several front loaders as I have rainwater tanks which is as soft as you can get and I have terrible trouble rinsing even using quarter doses of detergent.
If the machine has a pressure switch which you can hear "click" over when it stops filling then generally there is an adjustment screw on the pressure switch to adjust its sensitivity. Unfortunately there is up to four adjustment screws and only one is the correct one. I just muck around with them trial and error, but you have to be careful to take note which screw you tried, how far you turned it and which way, so that you can put it back where it was if your adjustment didn't help or made it worse. The adjustments are sensitive, only a small turn changes the level a fair bit.
If there is no "click" then either it is still the right type but it is just quiet, or it might be a pressure switch with an infinitely variable output, where instead of snapping over from contact A to contact B, the output is a resistance which slowly changes as the water level rises and the internal computer just senses that resistance. That type of sensor is used in Fisher and Paykel top loaders and is not adjustable, but on the FP you can adjust the level by going into service mode with a special sequence of button pushes, then adjust the water level from the machine's dashboard. No computer download required.
I would suspect that IF your maachine is computer operated and uses a variable resistance type pressure switch, then there WILL be a sequence of button pushes which allows you to adjust the water level yourself. The hardest part will be finding out how to do it, you could try pestering AEG service agents, or try contacting AEG direct yourself. Don't be surprised though if (a) they haven't got a clue what you are talking about, or (b) they refuse to disclose the info to you. You may have more luck emailing AEG direct in Germany, try addressing it to the technical department so you can get it past the salespeople, PR people and BS artists.

Good luck, I'm happy to try to help you adjust your machine. On my Asko it was just a matter of turning a screw on the pressure switch but that machine is over 10 years old now, and I'd reckon more modern machines will be trickier to adjust.

Hey peter!,
i hate to state the absalute obvious. But no ones mentioned it. on my AEG 74640 Once i activated the RINSE + option along with extra rinses came higher water levels.

I'm not 100% sure but i'm guessin that the only way you can get it re programmed is by calling out an engineer. again im not sure. might b ur only option.

Sadly there is no update available for this machine.... they just told me to use less detergent.... like I didnt know that!!!

Doesn't your Rinse+ also raise the rinse level? On my AEG (as well as the sensitive button, which raises rinse levels so they're 1/3 up the door, and 1/2way up the door on the 2nd and 3rd of 5 rinses), rinse + on mine, like Darren's, will also make the rinses deeper, although that usually only happens if you select Time Saver but sometimes will do on the long lengthy cycle. Have had no rinsing problems at all with the AEG - but must admit I do *slightly* prefer the rinsing on the Miele. Even with 2 rinses the Miele seems to be able to rinse all the detergent out whereas the AEG needs a minimum of 3 in order to rinse out all the detergent - but I'm thinking the water recirculation pump probably has to do something with that.

Another thought could be that seeming as your AEG is a washer dryer it is probably more Zanussified than the washing machines.

Think it's probably best you went out and bought a new washer if you're unsatisfied, preferably of the brand beginning M and ending in iele .

...I think you are right. we will be moving soon and I think it will be time to move on to and "M"!
The extra rinse is just that, an extra rinse with just enough water to saturate the clothes!. Great for the delicates cycle but the cottons (where, in my opinion you need most water for rinsing) is just poor.
The Zanussified Jet at the front is on an angle in the Washer dryers and does nothing but trickle down the front of the door. No real advantage. Don't get me wrong, in all aspects other than the rinsing efficiency, this machine is excellent, i am just looking for a machine, like the Miele where you can programme more water and an extra rinse.
As far as the detergent I use.... I only ever use Ariel Tabs. I only use one and still this leaves a strong odour after a full programme and pretty hard towels after drying.
Maybe it is time to look towards an older generation machine that guzzles water?
We will see.

Ariel tablets!!! No wonder you're having trouble with rinsing!!! I have huge problems with them sudsing with me...

I suggest you try Persil powder first - seems to be the best rinsing detergent, at least I have found - even in our Bosch which is quite pathetic at rinsing.

If you want a Miele I would wait until the new W1000 and W4000 models come out in a few months. Beautiful machines ;-).

u need a water guzzling logic! even with tablets & liquitabs the logic doesnt sweat a thing! shouldnt do using 120litres!! lol or a Quartz Go vintage i swear 3 high level logic rinses are as good as 4 of my aeg's rinses.

I always use the rinse plus option for my machine and still not good enough. I spoke to Jon and he gave me a bit of advice to try Persil.
