Hey, jetcone ... funny coincidence with DuoMatic detergent for your Duomatic!

Must be a peculiarly British phenomenon to add --"matic" to the name of an existing detergent brand. I saw "DriveMatic" in one of the pictures of an Australian supermarket's detergent section and the only thing I could think of was an automatic transmission circa 1949!

oh wow thats so weird seeing those in america lol, i was just looking at Duomatic in the stores today. I use Drive Matic if i ever use a front loader (which is rare these days, its made by UniLever and is a good detergent. I used Duomatic for a while as well, it cleans good and has a nice scent. Omo-matic i have never used.

omo-matic

Hi, Jetcone!
Haven't ever heard from OMO-matic...!?!
We have OMO here in Germany from the Unilever Company.
This was the first detergent that came onto the German market with the so called TAED-System (Tetra-Adenyl-Ethylen-Diamin) which is a catalyst for the perborate bleach by cracking it up already at 40°C instead of 65°C (or higher)! There was an adversiting that showed always the family called Saubermann (Cleanman) doing stupid things like eating blueberries, cherries and strawberries so clumsy that all the white tablecloth including the white shirts and skirts of the children were covered all over with stains of the fruits within minutes and the stupid Mrs. Saubermann laughed at this, showing almost joy that she could immediately do another wash in her machine straight away.... (Mrs. Saubermann doesn't bother AT ALL....she's got OMO!....and she smiled as if somebody had given her a Chrismas present...!!)
That was during the late sixties!!

Omo

A few months ago I mentioned to a bunch of friends of mine at work that I found this detergent called Omo at a Brazilian store in Peabody MA. One of my coworkers Mona said very matter of factly..."you gays have your own detergent now?...I have heard it all" I almost pee'd it was so funny...I told her its OMO not Homo...egads. I can see where she thought that.

But Omo is code for hOMO!!

Greg-The Duomatic has a nice floral scent but I think it is an Australian flower if my memory serves. It is no north american floral scent thats for sure!

Ralf- I love Mrs. Saubermann!! Hats off to her and her caveman brood!! I'd love to see one of those commercials! I did use OMO in England in the 70's but that was way before TAED's for sure!!
Ya know, come to think of it, in Cave Man days I bet there were messy cavemen and clean cave men even then!!

It arrived, Yippee

Hi Jon,

I'm glad it got there finally :) You should now not have to worry about running out for all of the Duomatics you now have on hand :)

The reason that the Matic term came to light over here, was 99% of machines were TL's and the detergents were labeled by their respective names:
Drive
Cold Power
Fab
Surf
Omo
Rinso
etc etc etc

Omo was the only one that had a version specifically for FL, and it was called Omomatic - Not that dissimilar to Persil Automatic, Bold Automatic in the UK.

Jump forward 25 years to the late 90's and with the impending water crisis, 90% of all new machines sold are now FL's. Therefore there was a niche for a new product range:

Enter the following
Drivematic
Cold Power matic
Fabmatic
Surfmatic
Omomatic
etc etc.

I use Drivematic 99% of the time, it has a neutral chemically scent and stuff just smells clean rather than floral. Michael keeps buying me in a huge stock of detergents to try, yet they keep taking up space in the garage until I give them away :)

The duomatic has a nice smell, it smells a bit like a baby to me, I cant identify if the smell is related to a flower though.

I'm glad it arrived after all this time

Nathan

Hey Jon, Just wondering if you have tried the Duo-Matic detergent yet and what you think of it. Does it make a lot of suds?

Oh GAWD TERRY

I tried it two years ago when my cousin came over from OZ she brought me a box.
I fell in love with it, it is very low sudsing like our Fresh Start.
And it cleans like Persil the wash water is always "durty"!

Terry if you bow down, kiss my shock absorbers and praise the washer gods maybe I can send you a free sample to try.
(You must understand I am HOOKED on R O M E right now!!)

Send me your address.

jon

I am down on my knees as I write this Jon, thanks ever so much I will be sending you my address!! Terry
