Most Importantly

The KitchenAid KD-15 dishwasher I found a few weeks ago had a terrible leak. It turns out it was the motor shaft/pump seal which luckly is still available. I picked up one today and it washed its premier load tonight!

Now that the mechanics are done, I have to work on the Plexiglass situation for this dishwasher.

Awesome looking dishwasher - how did it do? Isn't that great when parts are still available? I just love ripping open those plastic bags!

I usually wash one evening a week and more on Sunday AM (kind of like washer-church!) to get sheets out on the line early.

Now THAT'S the kind of airing of dirty laundry I like (very much). I can hear that Bendix now. Thanks for the pic of the "new" SQ.

KitchenAid Performance

It washed everything spotless, no rejects, although its not the quietest of dishwashers that for sure. Its louder than both the Frigidaire and Apex, but still quiter than the James. I'm not sure if the heater element is working, the heater assembly itself did not get hot, but the fan runs, yet the dishes were dry, go figure.

Its a nice machine with a wonderful vintage looking control panel, I wonder if this dishwasher needs to become pink???

Robert, next time you snap a pic of a load in the 58 Speed Queen how about using the red coronado agitator? It looks cool.

It was so nice to see some of your machines in action again Robert. I agree with Brent, I love the Bendix. That Kitchen Aid is just beautiful. Hope you can get some kind of glass front for it so we can see the "ACTION' .

No Water Heater

Hi Greg, the Imperial Model does not seem to have a water heater, I believe that was only in the Superba, but I'm guessing here. I was talking about the heater in the dryer fan assembly. I have to check it and see if it heats, the unit felt cool, yet the dishes were dry. No there are no pauses in the cycle that I heard.

Wonderful action pics...and there's that familiar purple striped shirt again, which I'm so accustomed to seeing in the videos!

Ugh, I remember how noisy those KAs can be. Particularly at certain points during fill & drain when the pump is really soundling like a jet plane. But during the full-water fill water circulations, it was quite soothing. It's only when it does the partial fill is it pretty noisy. And the James is LOUDER?? Oh my!!!

But the sounds are wonderful

One of my biggest gripes with that modern dishwasher in our Kitchen (and its days are numbered) is how quiet it is, what fun is that if you can't hear it? Although with its two hour cycle, that's probably a good thing. If I like this KitchenAid I will take out the Modern dishwasher and install the KA in its place. Between the KA and the '56 Frigidaire in the Kitchen that is all we would ever need. Now if I could only find room to install the Apex Dish-a-Matic in the Kitchen too, that would make three upstairs.

mini wash in

Robert, did you save all the dark clothes for the weekend loads? What machines are you going to wash them in?

Have you gotten a chance to get some of te other machines going from the last trip you went on where the Wizard (pig) came from?
Jerry

Hi Jerry, yes it was just a midweek wash of towels and sheets.

No with all the work on the website, the other machines are still waiting to be worked on. I started on the Kelvinator and plan on finishing it up in a few weeks when things are not so hectic around here.

Early Kenmore

Why were the tubs so deep or lower in the early Kenmores than in the later ones? Seems that a short petite housewife would have a little trouble reaching down in there

Controls

The timer and other controls had to be mounted in the cabinet at that time. I guess they didn't have to be, but that was the state of technology back then. Once controls moved to a rear console, this issue went away.

MRB

I'm not exactly sure why the basket is so far down in the early Whirlpool and Kenmore machines. As MRB said might have something to do with the very first models having the timer on the front of the cabinet. Even though my machine is the 2nd design with the control on the rear console, maybe they didn't want to spend the money to retool in order to bring the baseplate up. Who knows what they were thinking.
