I went to ALDI yesterday after a hiatus of almost two years, and forgot just how full I could fill my shopping cart with stuff I probably don't need!!! I used to live on ALDI when I first moved to Huntsville, and could have groceries for two weeks on about $40, granted it wasn't all the best tasting...

I happened upon the cleaning section so of course I had to investigate what detergents they have, and actually bought a bottle of Tandil laundry that is supposed to be a comparison to Gain Original scent, as well as a bag of Reeva dishwasher pacs that claim to compare to Cascade Complete. Usually I shy away from buying bargain brands but figured what the hay. The laundry detergent actually has a nice smell to it, and the detergent pacs remind me of childhood Cascade and that bucket of Member's Mark powder my granddad would buy back in the day.

Does anyone use these or have experience with them? I searched the forums but found only vague mentions of them in threads that were over 2000+ days old, so I'd imagine there may be a bit of a difference in what is carried now. I'm not expecting miracles but if they work well enough, it could at least mean that I could lower my dependence on P&G. I love Tide and Cascade but it's nice to have other options and change up a bit now and then.

I used to get Reeva dishwasher detergent powder, it worked decent, just as well as Cascade would.....

have been buying the Tandil laundry detergent liquid, orange bottle, blue cap.....in fact, at a few events, we opened and compared the color, smell and cleaning with Tide liquid......truth be told, they both seemed to be the same product in both bottles.......

for the price, you can't complain.......but yeah, its amazing what you can buy at Aldi versus other major food stores for the same money....

they just had bread on sale buy one get one free........where else can you get bread for .85 cents a loaf regular price, and now down to .43?...seriously!

many detergents you can find at Dollar General a lot cheaper than regular stores......what I find funny is places like Shop Rite, their sale prices are still higher than DG.....

at least at Save-A-Lot, Aldi, Dollar General.....I don't need a 'price plus' card, or to spend a minimum to reap the savings....

I think if the detergent pacs are made in Canada they're identical to the Ajax pacs which Consumer Reports didn't like very much. One of the packers of private label laundry detergent is here in SE Michigan--I've got to think most of the ones are the same. I was interested on a visit to Target yesterday to see some Seventh Generation with "50% more enzymes".

I did a quick search on them both, but found mixed reviews which I'm sure were by Tide trolls who left negative marks just because they didn't like that the scent wasn't exactly spot on or some other ridiculous complaint.

So far so good. As expected, there's nothing extraordinary about both the dishwasher and laundry detergent, but I've used them both two or three times now and haven't been disappointed. I actually used one of the dishwasher pacs to soak a stock pot that had scorched alfredo sauce in it, and I was pleased that it softened and dissolved the burned parts to where they just rinsed away after only about thirty minutes. The laundry detergent hasn't posed any sudsing issues, but one of the reviews I read was correct in that there isn't much smell leftover after they're dried, which may be a plus for some people. I only noticed it when sniffing one of the armpits of a shirt and could still smell my deodorant slightly, so I suppose that's one strength that Tide has that I've noticed so far. But, no huge worry because I have an entire jug of Spray&Wash that needs to be used anyway! All considered so far, they're a nice inexpensive alternative to standard Cascade pacs or Tide Original, and that way I can have a backup for when I don't have coupons or they aren't on sale.

If you could smell your deodorant after laundering, it is not that the detergent does not have fragrance, but that all traces of your deodorant were not washed away. Shirts in direct contact with deodorants/antiperspirants need pretreating with a strong pretreater and/or a booster like STPP in the wash to cut through the waxy base of many products and fight the water repelling effects of the salts in other formulations. You could even try spraying Knight's Spray Nine in the arm pits of white undershirts 10 minutes before washing to start the breaking down of the deposit, especially if it has led to a discoloration.
