Are they a cheaper WP line? Would you get an inferior box buying an Amana versus a WP or KA or is it a matter of trim and features?

We had an Amana bottom mount freezer that we bought in 2001. The WORST refrigerator we ever owned or used! The milk wouldn’t keep cold enough to keep from going sour before its exp. date and the produce froze.
It was also the most expensive refrigerator we ever bought too. Was glad to see it go. Replaced it after 5 years with a BOL GE 18 cu ft. top mount that cost half as much and was 100% better all around.

The basic side by side Amana from the last 6-7 years or so appears to be the same as the Whirlpool and Kenmore branded models. The Amana handles were just a different style. I checked out an Amana and Whirlpool right next to each other at an appliance dealer and a Whirlpool and Kenmore at Sears.
I liked the simple dial style controls although they now use basic touchpad controls.
