Rubbish
As a life long user of Maytag washing machines I had a chance in 2000 to buy a Dependable Care, Neptune or Atlantis. The Dependable care seemed old world, the Neptune had no window and experience had taught me Norge turned a big load spanking clean. I opted for the Atlantis. It has had one repair, a factory recall replacement of the timer. Mom had a Performa, just replace this spring because it went out of balance too often. My sister has a Legacy she's used for 4 years. None of us have any repair or performance complaints. I was further surprised to see Consumer Reports repair records which give Maytags of that era a fair repair record placement. Maybe they aren't as hideous as we all think. Grant you, no way as bullet proof as the Maytag helical and orbital, but okay. The bigger dryer does a very good job of drying and delivering permanent press relatively wrinkle free. They are noisier than earlier Maytags and give the same humpty bump beginning that Whirlpool and Kernmore do until the rollers warm up. With the cavernous wash basket of the Atlantis a bigger dryer was definitely indicated.
