I have a 3 ring binder that’s 3 inches thick, which is full of muscle car advertisements I’ve collected over the years. While I don’t know for sure exactly how many ads were actually put in print, I’m pretty sure I have the vast majority of them, as I’ve spent many, many hours going through stacks and stacks of magazines.

The ads range from 1962 to about 1973 (for most) and include AMC, Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford and Mercury.

I posted an ad for a rare 1969 Hurst S/C Rambler last night in the "AMC cars" thread if you’ve not seen it.

So… if YOU have any interest in this, please make a suggestion or request for what you’d like to see and I’ll scan and post it after I’m home from work.

Thanks!
Kevin

Mhhmm!!!!!!

Me love muscle cars. Do you have any 60s Mustang GT/Shelby scans? Would love to ogle at those!

Or even neater, Galaxie scans?

Thanks! This

Kevin my favorite was the first Dodge Charger or the 1964 GTO.

One of my cousins and I used to go to the drag races in Oklahoma City in the late 60's to see the muscle cars race and show.

Do you remember Dr. Oldsmobile, Elephant Engine Ernie and th

For Mike: the 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 (they didn't use the Cutless or Supreme names on the 442).

The Monte Carlo was considered more of a personal luxury car (along with the Pontiac Grand Prix), though I would definitely consider the Monte Carlo SS a muscle car, I don't have any ads for them, sorry.

Also, the Buick Regal didn't come into existence until 1973 (as the Century Regal) and that was at the tail end of the "muscle car" movement. Buick did produce the Gran Sport, based on the Century Regal until 1974 or maybe '75, but by '75 they were watered down models that were mostly cosmetic and suspension packages.

That 442 is amazing! WOW! There is a 442 just like it in yellow (but a little bit of rust) for sale just down the street a few blocks in my neighborhood.

What a car!

Did you know.......

...that in 1966 you could walk into selected Hertz rental car offices and rent an honest-to-god Shelby GT 350 for $16 per day and $0.16 per mile??

There was a grand total of 2,378 Shelbys produced for 1966. Of that number, 1,001 were Hertz GT350H models: 999 production cars and two prototypes. Built at Shelby American's Los Angeles airport facility alongside regular GT350s, the Hertz cars received all of the usual Shelby modifications. Hertz originally ordered 100 four-speed cars but changed its mind after 85 cars were delivered. Reportedly, there were complaints from Hertz rental agencies regarding fried clutches, which made Hertz reconsider the four-speed order.

My brother had a book about the history of Shelby automobiles and one story about a GT 350H stuck in my mind. The owner of one decided to do a full restoration and while removing the cars interior, discovered weld marks on the floor where a roll cage had been welded into the car and then later removed. It's assumed someone had rented the car from Hertz, welded in a roll cage to go racing with the car, then cut the cage back out before returning the car to the rental agency! WOW!
