Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I saw one just like that at Salvation Army a while back, in two-tone beige.  It had the owners manual but wasn't in as nice of shape as the subject machine.  They wanted way too much for it.  Over $200 IIRC, in the Boutique section.

Whoa! That is quite neat! Very modern in design for a wringer. I cant say Im much of a fan of the open roller design, but with something like that I think I could get used to it!

I spy a vintage dishwasher!

It's a beauty, and even has 2 speeds--awesome. Every once in a while, I think it would be fun to have a wringer washer for the occasional hands-on load. When I was a year old, in 1960, my dad bought my mom our Kenmore Model 80 pair, but they kept the '59 Kenmore wringer washer. I recall my mom using it when the automatic would break down. It sat in our laundry room covered with a big plastic washer cozy.

My sister told me that when she first got the automatic washer, my mom would still wash the clothes in the wringer machine, then transfer them to the automatic after wringing, at which point she'd run a Rinse and Spin cycle. My dad finally convinced her to trust the automatic and put the clothes in there from the start. Italian war brides were funny people.

Surprisingly, she took to the '56 Westinghouse pull-out style dishwasher immediately.

Those rollers are weird for sure.  I thought there was something wrong with them when I first saw the Salvation Army machine.

Oh, and interestingly, that LK wringer was gone on my next visit to the store about a week or so later.  I doubt it went for $200+ but even for half that amount the buyer had to want it pretty bad.

LKM WRINGER WASHER

The rollers had a marbled pattern for safety so you could see at a glance that they were turning, they like other brands were made of hard rubber, also the larger diameter rolls were less likely to break buttons. And with two motor speeds beginners could wring at the lower speed LOL.

Well.......

That is some color. I'm not sure what they would call that color. Carmel or Sassy gold or something. Kenmore must have paid a Las Vegas pit boss and a couple hookers to sit and think of some fun new colors for there machines.

who built the LK wringers ?

None other than Whirlpool! The gearcase has a similar shape as a belt drive automatic except it's not. It was direct drive. In good working order the machine was silent except when pumping. I had two through the years. A regular non Lady model (no chrome, single speed, gold ramp agitator) and a Whirlpool model with black Surgilator.
