I imagine the prop department doctored the machines to disguise the brand. A fake panel probably was affixed over the real consoles.

In picture # 186825 there does appear to be provision for side-opening lid access. Notice also the exposed lid hinges, and how close the rear of the lid is to the console. The angled overhang on the consoles would prevent the lids from opening to a fully vertical position.

You guys are so funny but you know darned well that those machines are either Calypso's or Bendix Frontloaders tipped on their backs, or Easies with their spinners chopped off. The reset buttons are fake disguises to trick everybody into thinking they're Frigidaires.

The Dryers

Are Cissell model g they were the best on the market .for many years. Still some around today. Made to last they weighed in at 1800 lbs today most 50 lb dryers avg around 600 to 700 lbs if that much.

I too noticed how each machine is all akimbo in terms of level. I'm surprised that they didn't bother to at least level the fronts of the machines...or maybe floors in Mayberry are just more uneven

Guys......Robert is correct.....

Robert is right, it is a Frididaire, of sorts. GM wanted to branch out into the coin laundry niche (as other companies were doing in the late 50s and early 60s). By using the Frididaire division, and calling it by another name (which is very frequently done), GM entered the coin laundry areana with "Laundercoin". It's no different than a Buick and Cheverolet; under the hood or under the chassis, it's still a GM product.

Frigidaire.......

Hey Guys
One of my earliest appliance memories- in fact one of my earliest memories full stop! is mum lifting me up and sitting me down on top of what I would strongly suspect to be one of these machines at our local Frigidaire equipped laundrette. They had a row of maybe 16 machines in alternating pink, turq and yellow. They went about 15 yrs ago(some were advertised as being for sale for I seem to remember £30 each!!).

The launderette is actually still open- it now has a mixiture of yellow Maytag top loaders(replacements for the Frigidaires), Commercial Neptunes!!!!!!!, and Commercial Electrolux front loaders.

First time I saw Frigidaire washers

Was in a coin laundry in Davenport, IA when we took a family trip to Kansas in 1973. They were turquoise and I had never seen a Frigidaire washer before. I remember the lid had a square window rather than the round one. I think they got the clothes really clean and were fast, because who wants to spend vacation in a coin laundry - although that always seems to happen!

Too Bad

that the vehicles were supplied by the Ford Motor Company and got to keep their emblems, but General Motors had the Frigidaire name covered up. Oh why didn't Philco have a coin op washer to make life easier!
