Announcing: Central Illinois Wash Party

This is an open invitation.

The weekend of August 7, 8 and 9 are the dates for the upcoming Central Illinois Wash Party, hosted by Mike (dishwashercrazy) of West Peoria, and Gary (abcomatic) of Bradford.

Gary’s home is a 1897 Midwestern Queen Ann Victorian located about 40 north of Peoria, and features a 14 Rank 1906 Estey Hinners Pipe Organ. The home was built as a wedding present for the first owner. Gary’s Washing Machine collection features several mainly wringer washers (1955 ABC Round Tub, 1958 ABC Round Tub, 1949 Dexter double-tub, 1954 Maytag Commander Square Tub, 1973 Maytag Master Square Tub, 1930’s Maytag Gray Ghost Square Tub, mid-1950’s Easy Washer/Spinner, and 1954 ABC Gas Dryer). Some machines are operational, some not. Saturday mid-afternoon and evening activities will take place at Gary’s, and will include dinner, a short organ concert, and of course some “wash action”.

Mike’s home is a more modest 1923 Colonial, which will be stuffed with no fewer than 4 Electric Sink/Dishwashers (1948 & 1949 operating GE’s, 1937 non-operating GE, 1950 Sears Homart), at least 10 other dishwashers (1948 & 1950 Hotpoint, 1951 & 1956 GE Drawer, 1954 Westinghouse Drawer, 1950’s James, 1958 GE MobileMaid, 1955 KitchenAid KD-11P, 1960 KitchenAid KD-12, 1973 KitchenAid KDS-17), 1975 Poppy Red Frigidaire 1-18 Washer, 1958 Pink Maytag P124 Automatic, 1946 Maytag Square Tub, late 1950’s Dexter Double-Tub Wringer, late 1950’s Easy Washer/Spinner, 1990 GE Filter Flow with Mini-Basket, and a few more later model washers. The weekend activities (other than the time spent at Gary's on Saturday) taking place at Mike’s home will heavily feature the dishwashers, several of which will be fitted with Plexiglas for full viewing. There will also be a large selection of service manuals and other literature from various companies to look through; a full complement of GE Appliance Parts Listing from the 1940’s to 1970’s for viewing; plus other activities in the works.

Peoria is situated in the heart of Illinois, about mid-way between Chicago (3 hours drive) and St. Louis (3 ½ hours drive). Interstate I74 passes through Peoria between the Quad Cities, from the northwest, heading toward Champaign and Danville to the East. The Peoria airport has flights by United Express from Chicago and Denver; flights by American Eagle from Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth; flights by Northwest Airlink from Detroit and Minneapolis; flights by Delta Connection from Atlanta; and flights by Allegiant Airlines from Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Tampa/ St. Petersburg. Bus service is also available 4-times per day from Chicago O’Hare and Midway Airports.

Contact Mike for more information at [email protected].

RSVP at [email protected] by August 1, 2009. We look forward to hearing from you if you can work this weekend into your schedules.

Since this announcement is posted in ‘Super’ I’ll rely periodically to keep the post from falling off the list.

Paul, Glad to hear you can make it!

This is the oldest machine in my collection - a 1930's ABC Washer/Spinner. ABC (Altorfer Brothers Company) operated here in Peoria, and this machine was likely manufactured only about 1 mile from my home. As most of you already know, ABC was acquired by Kelvinator.

I've only cleaned this machine up. I haven't tried to operate it yet. The rivets holding the spinner tub to the drive shaft have long ago rusted away. I'm sure they can be replaced, but I just haven't had time to work on it.

More of my collection that will be running during the Wash P

Maytag E2L Square Tub Wringer Washer (Tub No. 168434F, 1946? (This was the first machine to start my vintage collection on 11 July 2008.)

Easy Washer/Spin Dryer Model SDK (S/N 41691, 1959)

Dexter Double Tub Washer by Philco Model 1D9 (S/N 17340, late 1950’s)

(I have a unique situation - this wall is nowhere near a drain. So I bought a modern G.E. Washing Machine self-contained pump and motor, which I have connected up to the drain of this laundry tub. The black drain hose will be lengthened and raised to near ceiling height, and dropped into a PVC Drain Pipe that will cross over the door (to right in photo), then drop down and along the wall to the sewer. These machines will always be monitored when ready to be emptied, so I'll have an electrical switch most likely mounted on the wall to operate the pump motor. I also fitted the Dexter Double Tub with a separate drain hose that connects to a PVC Dishwasher connection under the laundry sink. If a drain plug is placed in the Laundry Sink's drain, the pump sucks the water right out of the Dexter when the drain valves are opened. So what you see here is preliminary to test the theory and prove that it will work.)

VERY NICE Mobile Maid

Very nice, I grew up with what I was lead to believe was a 1959 ??? Someday I will have another. Mike

Mike, I sure would love to attend but it just isn't going to work this time. I know that you guys will have a great time!!

Lisa,

Can you give us a photo and some more information about your dishwasher please? If it is a toploading dishwasher, likely one of us will be interested in it.

Mike

More photos...

This is a recent acquisition - a Sanyo SW-410. I don't know a thing about this machine or how old it is - yet. I picked it up at our local Habitat For Humanity Rehap Store.
