Another Episode of Can This Microwave Be Saved...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I do have a microwave question.

We have a Litton model 412 microwave that has been sitting in the garage for about 10 years. We used it a few times 3 or 4 years ago and it worked fine.

The problem is the glass that went on the floor of the cooking cavity broke. Somebody moved a very hot pot from the stove to the inside of the microwave and the glass literally exploded.

Can I just go to a glass shop and have them cut me a piece of translucent tempered glass as a replacement? Or did the glass used in the microwave have any anti radiation properties to it?

It was my very first microwave purchased in 1975.

$150!?

Steph,

Too bad you're not closer to Iowa, I could set you up with a nice 9 or 10TA. In fact, I'm bursting at the seams with Radaranges right now. One thing to watch out for on the Louisville machine is that the control panel has been replaced with Amana's cost-reduced 'universal' style. It looks like glass, but it's not, and the display is no longer LED. Plus it's missing the trim strip below the vent. I wouldn't give over $30 for it.

The sad fact is these just don't ship well (people contact me with horror stories looking for parts from shipping gone wrong). If you ever make a wash-in, look me up, we can get you set up right ; ) -Cory

Oh man

I sincerely wish either I could get to Iowa or a Radarange would ship better. I would love to buy a couple from you. :( Thanks for pointing out the issues with that unit on CL. I am by no means a Radarange expert (yet...) :) Why does it always seem like the cool stuff is so far away?

Hey Stephanie,

I go through that general area about once a year when going to Mississippi. I like going down 31W from Munfordville to Bowling Green. I don't feel like I've been to MS unless I go past the Wigwam Motel in Cave City. Have you seen it?
